12" Jelly Worms
I stopped by Dick's today and picked up a bag of these 12" Jelly worms. The longest worms I have used to date were 8 inchers, and I only ever took one bass on them. I don't really know what to expect from these monsters.
Has anyone used them before? Any techniques or advice for them? I plan to T'rig and even try shaky-head.

I've never used 12 inchers but I use 10 inch Zoom and Culprit all the time with great success.

My only experience with a 12" worm was years ago in the springtime in Oklahoma. We used to rig them weightless with a 6/0 or 7/0 hook and fish it VERY slow on top like a snake. We didn't catch many, but the ones we did were memorable.

12" worm is good for carolina riggin.. I have caught fish on 10" power worms...
I will say that you may need to frequent lakes with big fish.. .smaller fish may not be interested in a fish that size, so a lake full of small fish may yield very few bites.. In otherwords, bama need not use one... |

I have used 12 and 16 inch worms often. I have found that they do well T-rigged with a light weight. I don't like to go heavier than 1/4 oz. I fish them with a 5/0 hook and then I attach a smaller hook further down. I simply use the tag end of my palomar for the second hook.
I will say that walker is dead on that smaller fish are sometimes intimidated by them. I only really throw them when looking for a kicker fish, or if I am on a good spot where the smaller fish keep hitting the bait before the big momma can get to it.

I've found that the fish that bite the 12" Mann's Jelly worm are going to be in the 2-2.5 lb range or better. 1/4 oz weight with 4/0 or 5/0 works well.
I've had bluegill grab the tail and run with a 10" Berkley worm on a C-rig. Those little pecker's are fearless on the nuclear mudhole I fish. |

Mann's Jelly worms, those were the first worms I ever used. I've had great success with Zoom and Power worm 10"ers. I've never used a 12". Will be on my gotta try for next season. It's getting REAL COLD up here. I'm getting my boat ready for winter and also getting ready for hunting camp the 15tth of Nov. I've spotted a few 10 pointers and a giant buck that has 11 or better. Can't see the smaller tines well for a good count.

I LOVE MANNS JELLY WORMS! When I was a kid that was all there was really. Hard to come by now. Wally world don't carry them. And you can only gt them online around here. I have a few, not 12"ers I don't think. But I do have 8" I 2 colors, GRAPE, and WATERMELLON. Carolina rigging works great and I still texas rig mine too.

I guess I'm the odd ball here. I use Zoom Ole Monsters, the 11 inch ribbon tail. I use them all spring, summer and fall. I have so much confidence in them that they are the only traditional worm I use. I catch good size bass on them but I also catch bass so small that you wonder what the fish was thinking and how it got the thing in it's mouth. I have caught just as many 10 to 12 inch bass on these 11 inch worms as I have caught 4 lb plus on them. They work best when the bass are aggressive. I have switched to 6 and 7 inch worms to see if they worked better, but I seemed to catch the same number of bass with less big ones in the mix. I finally got to the point that if the number of bites seemed to stay the same, but the size of the biggest fish went up with the longer worms, then why use the shorter worms. If the bass are being finicky, I use small trick worm baits on a shakey or a drop rig, or I use small craw, beaver tail, or tube style baits

I use the ole monsters too, preferably in red shad on the lake I fish. I have also used them on guntersville rigged weightless over top of the grass mats. The second day of the last tournament I fished i lost one in the grass on a ole monster that I think was in the 8lb range.

What part of g'ville do you launch at? I fish it as often as i can. Usually put in at B. B. Comer bridge launch. Maybe next spring we can hook up.

Depending on what end of the lake i fish i put in several diff spots. I put in a small public ramp next to the bridge on the bottom end sometimes. Our fish-off launched out of mink creek earlier this year. In one trip with 3 days of pre-fishing before a 2 day tournament we used probally 6 different ramps tryin to save gas. That 200 vmax aint very easy on fuel when makin really long runs

I do the same thing, the truck burns a lot less gas than the boat, besides a shorter boat run means more fishing time! Good point there, brother!
