I started working on this one the other day for a good friend of mine to give to him as a present for the countless trips he has took me and probably responsible for keeping me on the water when my Grandpa's health deteriorated and he passed. He always wanted a spiral wrapped rod since we went to the Bassmaster tourney on Ross Barnett in '96. And the last time we went fishing we were talking about the micro guides, so I am going to try to give him the best of both worlds. This rod is built on a 6'6" Castaway crankbait blank Med-Mod. It is equipped with American Tackle micros, except for the stripper: Double foot 6, 5, and 4s the rest of the way out. I went with an EVA split grip with aluminum checks and one blue check on the foregrip. I was sort of worried about the rod from not making a spiral, but I tossed a Bandit abotu 35 steps today without loading the rod. I didn't really put out because the thread has not been coated yet. But I am really pleased with the castability and smoothness of these micros. I will post some more pics when I finish it. I also threw in the handle pics of "Mean Green", a topwater rod I am building for myself. It is an FTU IM10 blank that will have micros on it too. But that is for next month when I get in from overseas.
I have got to straighten this wrap, moved when I shifted the guide. I will probably double wrap it. I love these Castaway cut out seats.
