Spinnerbait rods, even moreso than others, are a matter of personal preference.
Some people prefer an extra fast action, so they can feel every single thump of the blades, and every piece of grass it touches. Myself, I go with the "reaction bait" philosophy that says a spinnerbait is like a crankbait. No, it doesn't have treble hooks, but I still prefer a moderate action, since most fish will be hitting it "on the run". I like a M or MH power, depending on weight, and M action.

All of my spinnerbait rods are 7' MH Fast rods. I don't like having a soft tip for spinnerbaits because I make a lot of pitches and roll casts with a spinnerbait and I am far more accurate with a stiffer tip.

I like to fish spinnerbaits on a little shorter rod, I like to use either a 6' or 6'6" rod in a MH power and a Fast action. The shorter rod allows me to be a little more accurate with my casts and the fast tip allows me to feel what the bait is doing a little more than rods with a softer tip, the MH power allows me to move most fish away from cover easily. Like already mentioned there is probably a wider array of opinions about spinnerbait fishing than most others.

I too, prefer a stiffer tip.
I have noticed an increase in hook-up percentages, since I switched to a stiffer rod. -Mark |

I'm with NFE on this one. I like a mod fast graphite rod in a MH power. I will throw them on a MHF too but I prefer the MF for most spinnerbait applications.

I use a 6'6" MH/F rod for spinnerbaits. I find it handles the job perfectly.

I like a MH/f in 6'9" for most spinnerbaits 3/8+ oz. I use a 6'6" M/f for the light weight spinnerbaits (1/4 oz and those in-line spinners), although I don't throw the small ones very often. I really like the 6'9" rods in the brand I use, they give me comparable casting power of the 7'ers with the accuracy of the 6'6" rods, a good compromise. Anyone that has seen my rod locker knows I have a few, with almost half of them being 6'9" which is my favorite length and the ones that see the most sunlight.

Generally I use 6ft 6 in occasionally a 7 ft 2 (both mh mod fast tips) when long casts are needed, but its a personal preference.
Also have a friend that uses a heavy action fast tip 8 ft rodsmith,he does not however toss 1/4 or even 3/8,all 1/2 or above, with double usage for muskies and hefty baits. And it works he catches 15 in bass and up all the time, with some short fish. He says its the tip,can feel the thump. Ive also used a 6 ft 6 in med for baits 3/8 and under,1/4 and 1/8 are used often in the ohio river,my first spinnerbait rod was a pistol grip 5 ft 6 in so its what one gets used to how one wants to use it and what with to some degree. A longer rod for longer casts, shorter for more accurate or even underhanded, mod for lighter, heavy for heavier, with mh being sort of inbetween, one cant toss 1/8 oz very well with a h,or toss a 1 oz with a med and get good results.End result is I have multiple spinnerbait rods each with specific uses and or baits in mind.
