Hi Guys, I have a prop ?
I have a 17.75 foot Rhino Jet boat (w/ no jet on it) that is set up to fish small reservoirs. Up to now I had no gas motor, just trolling in front and back. I recently bought a 1993 2 stroke Mariner 9.9 to use on some of the larger lakes I fish that allow 10 hp motors. My gps says I'm going abot 7.8 mph..which I don't think is bad for the size and weight of my boat all loaded. That said curious about speed.. Would a different prop make alot of difference? It currently has a 9.25" diameter with a 9 pitch 3 bladed prop on it.. any recommendations? Thanks, Sam

On such a large boat compared to hp used no not enough of any gain to justify, weight of boat also applies heres a link to a prop calc web site, use about . slip factor will be huge 3 times normal with a 1000 lb boat and 9 hp about .30 and same size for prop since alum
http://www.rbbi.com/folders/prop/propcalc.htm.If it were a fiberglass v hull about 10-12mph at a guess. Going from alum 9 in to say a ss 10-11 in would increase but cost is several hundred dollars. Sometimes one can find one on ebay a 10 in for about 50=60.They put alum ones on them due to if you hit a stump the prop goes,so there for a reason. Your jetboat may also be built with a tunnel of sorts which plays heck with prop ventilation or can. Last edited by lilmule; 03-10-12 at 09:24 AM. |
