Default More pics from Dale Hollow

We had a good time and did catch a few fish.

Nothing likd starting off the trip right - 1st fish caugh, 3.74 lbs on my scale and we didn't get any larger the rest of the week.

My first smallie of the trip

I very much appreciate "Woody" sharing the info he got about using poppers - would have been a no catching trip without that tidbit.

Did I mention catching small mouth is FUN!

View from our cabin deck. Dale Hollow is a very senic lake without all the development on the shore.

Walking down the hill to the parking lot, docks and resturant wasn't bad - the walk UP, another story.

Oh yes, Doc did catch more than ONE fish.

If you wanted smallmouth you had to fish the steep bluffs, like in the background here.

Chilly morning mist on the water.

Steep bank with rock and wood - that's where we found most of the smallmouth

Some may know Doc & I fished the Potomac for 4 days prior to the Dale Hollow Zookerfest - we finished 6th with a 14+ lb bag. I caught the 2nd lunker which was 5 lbs on the nose.

Finally the straw that broke this camel's back. Saturday morning pulled up on our first spot and dropped the trolling motor and the head broke away from the shaft.

The collar of the head that secures it to the shaft must have been cracked. PLASTIC SUCKS!

I'm "happy" it happened on the last day rather than earlier in the week. I was totally bummed out, so we returned to the dock, loaded the boat, and left for home. Again, my appoligies to those I did not see to say goodbye. I enjoyed meeting my new friends and seeing the old ones once again. Great time!

Thats a shame about your motor Bruce. I don't understand why a reputable company like MK or MG can'tbuild a better product. Maybe some of the outboard companies shoould try to give them a run for their money. I had a Mercury troll motor back in the early 80's that performed flawlessly. That pig you caught on the Patomic is beautiful! Nice catch. Have a question for ya. Is there much in the way of shallow to mid depth weedbeds at Dale?

Hey Bruce, those are some great pics.

It was a pleasure meeting you and Doc, even though Doc is a sh*t head. LOL

That was cold. Funny, but cold. Wait, I already said that in another thread.

Keith, I didn't find any with both. There are shallows up on the flats about 9 miles up from where we stayed - but they did not have weed beds. Some willows and other brush was found sticking up - but those did not hold fish, at least when we fished them. There was a flat near the island down by the dam, I saw a couple boats on it, and supposedly there was grass there but we did not fish it. Most of the water, even in the creeks, is deep. Two boat lengths off the shore will usually put you in 20' or more. If was different for me to be fishing poppers in 20' of water and calling smallies up to smack them. Most of the banks step down (narrow ledges) very quickly. All the sloping banks we tired, did not give up fish. Totally different way of fishing for me.

How do you keep that hat on with the camera on there like that? Looks like it would fall in the water the first time you look down.

Doc is secretly GOTH and has studs in his head to which he snaps the cap.
