Weekly Lake Fork Fishing report

Well, no matter what I tell you now it will change with the fast approaching cold front. The first couple of days after the front the fishing may slow. This front will drop the water temps if it gets down to what they say. This drop will help rather than hinder our fishing. The smaller fish will start disappearing and better fish will start showing up. The deep fish have started showing signs of this with many fish over seven pounds showing up on the reports at the marinas. The Jigging spoon has been the best deep water bait. Find the fish with your electronics and drop a marker close by so you can stay over them and drop a spoon to the bottom and hop it up and down. Hop the bait up and the bite will be on the fall. Stay in touch with your line and set the hook if you feel anything. Sometimes the line may just slack. There are times when they don’t want the hop. Just lifting the spoon off the bottom and holding it still will get you a strike. Line size is another factor. Smaller diameter is better. There are still plenty of fish in the shallows where lipless crank baits, spinner baits, weightless Wave Tiki Sticks, Lake Fork Tackle Ring fries or ZigZags, and pitching a jig around the timber in eight to ten foot of water. Top waters are still catching a few fish worked over the grass. The water temp was 69 degrees and clear but as I said earlier this will change. Deep humps and main lake points with deep water close by are the best pattern for the deep fish.
The crappie are plentiful but still running small. The cold temps will help them to stack up soon. Small jigs and minnows will be the bait of choice. 18 to 25 feet down over 30 foot of water is the depth to start your search. This is a big fish time of year and it is a good time to fill your freezer with crappie or bar fish. If you have never eaten a yellow bass AKA BAR FISH you need to try some. They taste just like brim.

ok hoss i know what white bass are and large/small mouth are. but exactly what is a yellow bass?
are they one of the sub secices like the ganalope bass?
