Walking the Dog
Can't seem to get a handle on this! With me, it's more like "dragging the dog"! I don't know whether I should be twitching the tip and then reel, reeling and twitching simultaneously or just reeling! I can put together small stretches that looks convincing, and then my spook will dive or hop, which scares everything! If anybody has some good medicine for fishing this lure, I would like to hear it! Appreciate it!

For me, I'm gonna say "reeling and twitching simultaneously". Yeah, it needs a little more practise, specially when you make a long cast. Don't jerk or twitch too hard. Actually, you can start twitching very gently and make a kind steady pull at first, try to let the spook glides on the surface. When you get the certain feeling, you can start to make the lure glides more consistently.
It's the most difficult topwater action. However, it's really worth to practise. IMO, spook is the most excited lure. |

It just takes plenty of practice. What I do is I cast in my pool and practice every now and then. And it is worth the practice and it is the most exciting lure IMO. I have found that if you only twitch the rod about 3 or 4 inches it workes realy well. But like H20 and I said it just takes plenty of practice.

also keep in mind, rods with different actions, and lines with different stretch rates will all effect the action of the spook, therefore while trying to learn, it would be best to do it on ONE particular rod/line setup.

I use a baitcaster for the Spook and a Spinning reel for the Zara puppy.

It is just like bass fishing its a matter of experience with them. The more you use one the better you get and the better you figure it out..........

Just happened to think of something else-try it with your rod tip up and then with your rod tip down and see which works better. Rod tip down works better for me, but some folks have better success with the rod tip up.

I use spinning reels and retrieve with my left hand. When the lure is to my right and when it is approximately straight out, at which time I turn sideways to my left, I get a good walking motion. But when the lure's to my left, I can't get the action down very well.
In other words, for reasons I don't understand, the action's good when the twitching is done with the rod moving to my left, and not so good when moving the rod to my right.

Its the opposit for me. I get great results to the right but like a begginer to my left. I need more practice working to my left I think. Or maybe its because im right handed lol

All my mom said was "I get the picture I will take you fishing somewhere when I get time" and the neighbors said "catch anything" "you might want to change lures. the key to fishing is the right lure" I dont care I just like to fish

One thing ya'll forgot. Use 14lb test on the spook and its easier to get her to walk. Any heavier and she drags and doesnt pop from side to side cause of drag from the line. On the puppy use 10lb and she walks better.

Spooking
It looks like I've started a thread that people like! I appreciate all the help and opinions. I too, get better action when working from right to left, but am all thumbs the other way. Anyone know of any wmv or other video where someone is demonstrating this! It helps to watch someone who knows what he's doing!
