Reliable Knots
For ease and strength, the Palomar wins the prize. I'll use it in most situations. I've also used the Trilene knot for years, strong and reliable.

I basicly use the polamar knot but I have one small adjustment to improve it a bit.
When you stick the line through the eye, loop it trough again and make the knot as you normally would. (just stick the line through both loops at the end!) With a little practice it is just as fast to do and with there now being two loops around the shaft it is a little stronger.

Anyone use the Rapala knot with any luck? I've read it is better then adding a split ring because it wont effect lure performance. I've lost 2 good fish due to Knot failure. It didn't break at the knot, the line broke at the loop if that makes sense. I doubt if it was my line, I re-spool every other trip. Now I'm paranoid and have gone back to split rings. Anyone?

I use the Rapala knot and have not had any breakage. I have also had a pretty crappy year so that mean no big ones have tugged on it too much.

Any way, rapala knot should work great on mono. If you use braid try palomar or improved palomar someone mentioned here. |

bemini twist here ...
Ya ever notice a angler will tie a good knot, yet forget to check the line for freys after catching one or fishing rocks, or timber? then they wonder why the line breaks on the next hook set.. some only will feel for the line with their lips, I dont care for that method, due to polutants in the waters, but always check your line, it only takes a minute, and gives you tons of confidence.. |

The Double Palomar Knot Is Not 2 Palomars I Cant Explain It And I Havent Seen Any Diagrams On The Internet. Its Not Known Very Widely, But In My Opinion Its Better Than The Palomar. And Its Easier And Faster.

the fishermans knot is a cinch knot. And I use the palomar when fishing soft plastics and the cinch for everything else.
