Bass Boat or Flats Boat?

If you had the choice, would you rather have a bass boat or a flats boat and why?

If I would on occasions be fishing salt or brackish water definatly a flats boat due to the different construction and care taken in the building of the boat to ward off saltwater corrosion.

Just the question Ive been pondering for a while now. Ill either end up with a dual species boat or a bay boat. The minute you add flats to the name, add 10 grand.

I traded my bay boat for a bass boat, but if I had to do it all over again, I think I would go with something like a Nitro 898 or the Ranger 195 Intercoastal or the Triton model that is similar. I can't remember what the Triton is called. Anyway, they are all essentially bass boat hulls with the white deck (no carpet) used in saltwater boats. Easy to clean up, but still keeping all of the benefits of the bass boat setup.

Dont know if this is possible but would definatly be worth looking into. Since carpet in a bass boat is upgradable why cant you have the option of a bass boat being built with all the ammenities and not have the carpet installed, just have a smooth finish of the glass that is put on the flooring. May be worth calling one of the boat companies that you are interested in and asking them about this option. You might end up with a bass boat without carpet AND save money. Just a thought. I havent tried this but it did cross my mind reading these posts. I know when I go to replace carpet for myself or a customer depending on what grade carpet they want it is anywhere from $100 to as much as $400 for the upgraded carpet. And that price is just for the carpet alone that does not include the carpet adhesive nor the installation and trim if needed.

while you're at it, might as well look into a platform placed over the engine, would make spotting beds much easier.

The more and more I look, the more and more that Im seeing a bay or multispecies boat as the answer. The bay may be even a better option because of the center console option and the avaliability of the boats. By the way the multispecies boats by RANGER,STRATOS,TRITON,NITRO are made out of GOLD. Ive seen a bassboat and the exact same boat labeled as a multispecies boat w/ a $12,000.00 price difference. Where is the justification in this????

no there aint hose holder. i have a stratos with the intercoastal flooring. easy to take care of just hose it down. it has a funny -rough- texture to it. i have slipped a couple of times -takes about 2" of water- to make you slip though. what ever you buy make 100% sure there is a hole for the troller moter pedal. i used one of these things and i love them. only problem with my stratos is that i have a hatch right were i want to run the troller..

Rodman since you live close to the ocean and intercoastal I would say flats or bay boat. But they also do go a lot slower than some of these bass boats.

Since you are talking about guiding, then I would let that make the decision for me. Which boat is more client freindly, which one would you use more due to the type of charters you are wanting. Storage would be a big issue for me, especailly taking out clients, who have nothing when they show up. Just a thought.
