Flukes, jerkbaits with long pauses, PNJ worked very slowly. SLOW AND SLOWER is my preference. Cranks with some pauses. Now I haven't had any luck with this, but I've read and heard folks saying sometimes a fast moving bait will elicit a strike also.

the only winter fish ive caught was in mid december on a pumpkinseed tube. I dragged it slowly across the bottom.

i think it depends on where your at wareagle...i live in the great state of Texas and i have caught the majority of my winter bass in 2-8 ft water using rat l traps and baby -1's....i have also used strike king lizards with great sucess as well...kevin van dam and mike iconelli both say there's no need to slow down just because it's winter....just experiment i say and see what they'll bite on....

i was watching Bill Dance on a show today winter fishing and he was using a Yum Craw...the really realistic looking one on a jighead and was slowly hopping it along the bottom. Caught a ton of big bass on it

If you do use tubes or worms, or any finesse baits, on a texas rig, do slow your retrieve down some, especially around cover and structure changes...ie..ledge's, points...holes....my thinking on cold water, is the colder the water, the slower my retrieve. It's hard sometimes to go slow like that, but it works for me. I sometimes just toss out a worm and let it sit for minutes, I'll light up a smoke, take time to give thanks ....(if your into that sorta thing)....and just enjoy the moment

OH....and try scents and tiny rattles on/inside your tubes, worms, etc.

Give spinnerbaits a try. I've been doing well all winter long casting 3/8oz double gold willow bladed spinnerbaits and keeping a constant speed of "slug speed," just enough to make the blades flicker and pull a little bit. If your lakes are a little shallower than the ones I'm fishing, throw a 1/4oz spinnerbait and change the factory blades out for larger ones so that you can reel your bait in even slower and still keep the blades moving. Slower the better.

You can increase the weight of that spinner bait with a 1/2 or 3/4 , along with a bigger blade to really slow it down.
