Default Lizards & Ill Bassin

I am going to the dark side. I am seriously thinking of buying a couple of new Curado 100D reels.Lizzy,I would like to buy it from the tackle shop you bought the pulse worms from here in NY a few years ago , but all he has in is 1 200DPV in stock. My Daiwa Flipping reels are 9 years old and are no longer made. I want a newer reel to take over the extreme abuse. Quite frankly the new Daiwas drag system works too well on them.I want little or no drag at all, and the Shimano's have the double anti reverse system that should be able to take the abuse.Feel free to post as you will, I most likely deserve whatever you can throw at me, but I had a blast cutting Shimano's while it lasted. I havn't got one yet PNJ. I think I'm gonna buy a new Citica this year since it's pretty much the old Curado. I dunno I bought a couple Diawas last year and they are good reels. I just like my curado SF better.

I can change from say a senko to a 3/8oz spinnerbait with the Curado and have no problem if I do it with the Diawas I have to adjust the brakes or they backlash. Other than that I cant say one is much better than the other.

Zooker I love the Daiwa magnetic system, but the newer Daiwa drags cannot be tightened down enough to prevent the heavy braided line from taking drag when yanking the fish while ripping out a mass of weeds in the process as it is sometimes needed to do.The other thing is, I am left handed and I push the thumbar left handed as I hold the rod left handed flipping the jig. The use of right handed reels allow me to crank with my right hand while controlling the rod with the stronger arm. Some reel brands being designed to thumb the thumbar from a right handed person will show excessive wear over time from being thumbed by a left handed person .It was designed to last longer from the use of right handed people, so I upset the reels engaging function by using the opposite side of its designed strength.I engage and disengage the reel several hundered times a day while jig fishing.I see the pros manipulate the line with one arm extended out moving the jig in a pedulum motion controling the jig drop on slack line while leaving the reel engaged. I can't say they are wrong, but I freespool the jig down and engage the reel from pushing up on the bottom the the thumbar( a Not well known Daiwa secret )without changing hand position or touching the reel handle to engage the reel and it leaves me with having both hands remaining in postion to set the hook instantly rather than having to reposition an extended elbow or to crank the handle to engage the reel and then reset the hand to set the hook on a bite with both hands to get a solid hookset.I know I will have to change everything when buying the Shimano and it will take some time to get used to it. Shimano's have to turn the handle to engage the reel, they cannot be engaged by pushing up on the thumbbar as Daiwa's and some Quantums can be.You can buy the Castaic that has the alternative flipping switch, but I have owned the Castaics once and it cured me a whole lifetimes worth of ever wanting them again. Welcome to the Dark side rotflmao. You know your reels. I still think the Castaic would work well for you, but if you don't want one, then buy what you want. I have fish so much in the last 2 years with it, and have yet to have 1 problem with the Castaic, which is my favorite reel, even over the Calais due to the flipping thumbar. I engage the thumbar just as you do without ever changing hands, and free spooling the jig/t-rig/whatever. I can set the hook, and as you said the drag is unbelievable, and just bring the fish/weeds/lake bottom to me. I won't give you a hard time about it, as you know I haven't bought any Diawa's or anything else for that matter(low profile except the Pinnacle), due to my complete satisfaction with the Shimano baitcasters. Hope you enjoy the new toy, and catch a few hawgs along the way.

i was planning on getting either an extreme combo or the citica combo. would the weight difference be considerable? the extreme is 8.4 while the citica is 9.9.

Skeeter, It makes alot of difference to some people, but I wouldn't think one would really notice the less than an ounce difference in weight while the reel is attached to the fishing rod, but I am not always correct . P N J
