a pet bass/catfish

is it illegal to catch a bass or catfish and put it in a tank? i have done that and theyve lasted a month. just wanted to know if it was illegal. the bass is 7 inches long and the catfish is 9 inches long.

your pretty sure its legal or illegal? i feed them worms, frogs, grasshoppers, or whatever i find in my yard! they eat it

its legal to have any sunfish for a pet
the only thing that is illegal in ohio is you can't sell sunfish fillets,
however you see walleye and perch from lake erie being sold all the timeI think the catfish fillets come from zoned catfish pond/farms.

I had wanted to keep a pet bluegill, but my fish tank is only 10 gallons plus i couldn't find much info on bluegill care online.

It may live, but probably feel like a prisoner... I got my own pond in the back yard, but its full of koi's and some huge goldfish.

i once had a 10 gallon tank and i put 2 bluegills and one 3 inch bass in it. they did fine until the bass jumped out of the tank i miss my friend bassy

yeah having that many fish in a 10 gallon tank isn't wise. on another board they said that a 30 gallon tank should be god for one bluegill.

oh. well i have a 150 gallon pond that you get at home depot and i have 3 bluegill, 1 bass and 2 catfish. my first one had a baby a while back.

how much was the pond?

my dad got it for i think 100 bucks or something like that. we also got a 30 dollar pump and some lilly pads .

they are great. we dug a hole in our yard and put it in so that a foot shows and my mom put rocks and stuff. it looks cool. ill get u a pic of one at the store

i dont get why it would be illegal. as long as its keeper size and you bought your license, why wouldnt you be allowed to do what you want with it?

they arent keeper size. the bass is 7 inches long and the catfish is 9 inches long. and im 12 i dont need a license yet

but your keeping them when they are undersized. you cannot possess any undersized fish. that means dead or alive.

ok. well ill keep em anyway. cranky, i'd recomend getting one cause its a blast to throw a live frog in and watch the bass and catfish go for it.

ok...you can if you want. but you risk getting a big fine.

in jersey the bass has to be 9" to keep....it's just plain wrong to take under size fish.unsportmanlike conduct,i would call it.

I would never take a bass under 14 inches, or over 20 inches. I only keep a bass to eat, maybe once every 3 months. I wouldnt put a bass in a tank, I think it would be like torture to them.

I wouldn't keep a bass unless it had a nice large sized place to live. the 150gallon pond probably will do... I never take bass to eat, i tried once and it didn't taste too great plus was a pain to clean. one exception was when i went camping, my dad really wanted to keep one of his to show my sister... Heck i tried to stop him but he did it.

Tom- i thought it was 12 inches as well... I am pretty sure that is what it says on the board by the pond.
