Nice. Alright I have it taped down, I made my farthest cast humanly possible, and stopped it. Then i peeled off a few feet and taped it down. I have hit the ceilign a few times... I'm not bringing the rod inside anymore.

watch out for ceiling fans too when ya carry the rods around the house.
Once it warms up you can get a bucket in the yard and practise hitting it, then once you get good, put something under a overhang, and practise hitting a spot on the lake that has limbs overhanging. Also inside you can do the flip, just take some line out at about your hip pocket area, hold the spool with your thumb, and underhand swing it to a object like a plate.. It will take you some time to get the swing part down without splashing in the water later down the road, but you can get the technique of swinging a pendulum motion, or hold the lure with your hand and let it drop as you raise the rod tip to get the lure our there.... try 10 feet away for starters from your rod tip. |

hey cranky, someday you'll be able to loosen that tension knob up so that lure just sails out.it's all thumb control.

Congrats dude!
I also would say 10lb mono is a little small for a baitcaster, step up in lb a little after you get it down. The tape works great, I keep forgetting about it, and it's a good thing for everyone. I need to put some on myself. I get backlashes still, and probably always will. Also you'll really find out how bad a birdnest can be after winding up, and casting, and hitting something on the fly, like a tree or whatever rotfl. I can't find the link, but perhaps Reb as usual will have the baitcasters 101 link. Read it and do what it says it will help you out. Lizards

14 LB sounds good. Wait till the bait monkey sees you have learned how to use one!

Cranky,
Glad to hear that you got yourself a baitcaster. I got my first Baitcaster a few years ago and was glad that I did. My spinning gear is beginning to get jealous. If you practice in your house and have a dog, you can have some fun. My dog loves to chase the plug and try to jump to catch it. Sometimes he will grab the plug and start to pull (kinda like a fish). Can you tell that I have been in the house too long? I can't wait til' it warms up. |

I practice hooksets on my dog with an eraser. He WILL NOT GIVE UP. He chases it like nuts!
