Bass DO know what smells different to them. Say someone blindfolded you and fed you fresh hamburgers all week, you'd get used to the scent and know, even though you're blindfolded, that it's ok to eat. then if they switch it around to an old, moldy, hamburger, you'd smell it and think, "this doesn't smell right..." and wouldn't eat it. Bass CAN smell foreign scents like gas, oil, soap, sunscreen, even like deodorant if you accidently touch it while puttin it on. you've just got to be careful of what's on your hands when you touch your lure, and when you touch the fish for that matter, some tihng could harm the fish, and we wouldn't want that!

Well first of all guys you cant compare this scent thing between bass and humans. But once again it will make a difference in many cases. With that being said... yes, if a major company does extensive research into the subject, well you dont have to believe them, but most will. And why not? They have the money and resources to find the truth. I wouldnt look at the research done by lets say Berkley, because they might sugarcoat it, make it look like we need scent so they can sell their product, but I wouldm deffinitely believe nuetral companies, and bass experts like the Author of the mentioned book.

I never looked at it like that, you know Berkley an other companis might over exagurate[sp?] to get us to buy their products, IMO, fish can smell our scent, they may not relate it to humans, but it is foreign. I haven't used scents before, but I'd like to try to see if it makes a huge difference or not.

I willing to guess that the number of bass anglers who have read this treasure of a book is quite low and I say this because either they want to keep such knowledge private or they really haven't read it. This book is in my personal library now.

P.S. Don't tell them about garlic and oil based attractants.
