I agree with vabass22, the braid is way too expensive to tear off completely. However, usually to stretch my lines as far as I can I leave backer line on my reels. I leve 30 yards or so still on the real, tie the new line with the backer with two uni knots, then fill it up with the new. Usually get about 100 yards or so. Then you can stretch you lines alot further. I still would change to mono or a copolymer though. The braid floats and is too visible for clear water and a leader will just create something else shiny for the dumb fish to bite at drawing attention to your line and not your bait.
