Yeah, that's true. In addition, these reels are sometimes used to combat other fish species that could spool even a 200 sized reel. Them companies are just finding a "best to fit most" niche in their reels.

I have never backed anything besides braid.. but I do not usually use very expensive line, I have been using P-line flouroclear and CX with good results.. If I am going to use mono, I choose suffix.

I use a cheap mono as backing and about two full casts worth of main line (Braid or Flouro).
