Great job on the new PB! Is that the little side of the lake we fished?
MIBasser had it right, especially after you lose several spinnerbaits or expensive jerkbaits in one day you will grow to hate the pike. There are lakes around here where I will not use those lures just because you are more likely to catch a pike and break off than a bass. It's hard to find "big" pike, but they are wild and fun to catch, the 15-20" ones not so much. The one suggestion I have is if you are catching a lot of them get a boga grip (or the Berkley version) so you can grab them and get your lure back. |

UPDATE:.....I just did a bit of researching and couldn't find what mammoth springs is stocked with, but I was surprised to find that several lakes in Arkansas are stocked with Northern pike....I had no idea....in fact it showed lake Ouachita to be stocked with them also....thats not far from my home, and I had no idea there were pike in those waters.....l am quite surprised to say the least, so maybe its entirely possible that those were Northerns we caught. Second update:......I just copied the following statement off the Mammoth springs lodge website.....("You can catch rainbow trout, large and small mouth bass, tiger musky, catfish, crappie, and many more")......I read that right.....Tiger musky in Arkansas waters.....wow, now I really am blown away. Thanks! Nope, this is Lake Dubonnet, halfway between Honor and Traverse City. I see now that I never mentioned what lake it was lol. Sound advice on the grips. It can be hard to hang onto those skinny, slimy buggers. Gonna head back out there in a few, and explore some more structure in other areas of the lake.

Headed out earlier to do a little more spinnerbait fishin.
15 fish today, 8 bass and 7 *********************pike lol Lost a Bluegill patterned spinnerbait to a pike, lost a white/chartreuse spinnerbait to a mysteriously closing bail on the cast. Was forced to pull out the firetiger spinnerbait. Had luck on all 3 with bluegill stealing the show once again. Took some more pics of the (in my best Spicoli voice) GNARLY structure and pads as well as the islands in the lake. Camera's in the van lol

We catch what most around here call jacks or chain pickeral. Kinda close to a pike, a ugly toothy bugger too. They're fun to catch, fight like you wouldn't belive, they jump out of the water then dive then jump again and dive again.. I really don't think you can wear them out. I lost one of my favorite squirltail spinners to one awhile back. I set the hook and it jumped then dove, then jumped and spit my spinner. It went to the left, the fish went to the right and I was left holding a rod and reel with a limp line and nothing on the end of it, not even my spinner.
(Pardon me while I pause to cuss cause I still get mad about it.) Anyway, the fish is pretty good but the bones run through it bad, they actually look like veins. http://www.ncwildlife.org/Fishing/pr...n_pickerel.htm

Awesome! I'd love to make spinnerbaits, but just don't have the stuff for making the heads!
How have spinnerbaits been in those water normally, does yours seem to work better?

You don't have to make your own heads by the way. You can order them non or painted with the head, hook and wire all in one. That's what I've been doin. Keep in mind, these pics are same lake but an area not related to the earlier pics.

The most recent pics are about a 45 degree angle from the boat launch. The original pics in this thread are a hard left from the launch, and in the "who wants some slop" thread, those pics are a hard right from the launch. I still haven't even explored all the areas yet! There's an area I REALLY want to get into but I need somebody on stump watch in the front. It's that bad.

Nice spinner bait man. I build my own spinnerbaits too and it feels good to catch a bass on a lure you made yourself. BTW Barlows, and Stamina lures also sell all the components for building spinnerbaits.

I figured it up a couple nights ago. I have $1.85 into each bait. The bait I patterned it after, the Dixie Dancer, is $4.99

That's pretty cool that they work better! You think you could send a few my way and let me see how they work for a** kickin Florida bass? That place looks killer, I bet in the spring spinnerbaits are even better! I'd also try a shallow crank on the outsides of them pads!
