I know that I mainly use Eagle Claw Lazer Sharps, because of cost comparison. But I know when I have a wager or a pride tournament with somebody, I switch em out wiht gamakatzu or Mustads. Laser- Hey cabelas carries the Gammy hooks for 7.50 or so for a 20 pack.

They aren't cheaper, but I have been using some Diiachi Copperhead hooks for Zoom Horny Toads. The way that they screw on keeps the bait from shooting way up the line when you have a hit. Anybody else use these?

Been using Gamakatsu's since the Early Ninety's. Vmc makes a very comprable hook. Not sure if they have an EWG design or not, and I'm not sure of the price but as far as the reliability and the hook point they are comprable to the Gamy's. Diiachi is another good hook, very good hook but I think they are actually more expensive than gamakatsu's. I like the daiichi fly hooks best for fly fishing though, but it's been years.
