I don't have as long of a history as some of the other guys, as I only really got back into serious bass fishing about 2 years ago. But I really like my St. Croix Legends....serious rods. I also like the Kistler LTX II's, though like Boogie said, you have to pay attention to which year's model you are getting. I actually think they went down in quality from 2009 to 2010 (I got the earlier ones).
My preferences are not based on bang for your buck however...in all honesty I am more of a fishing enthusiast than a hardcore fisherman (I do put in my hours though...ask anyone who fishes with me...I always want to stay longer). Craftsmanship is just as important as performance to me. If it's just performance...frankly, you'd do fine with a $30 Berkley Lightning Rod....no joke.

I own mostly the Falcon Originals because they were about the only available Falcon rod at the time when I bought them. However, over the last few years I've picked up a couple Lowriders, a Bucoo, and 3 Cara's. The Cara's are absolutely awesome. If I could only use one rod for plastics it would be the Cara Finesse Jig CC-5-1610MH. This is my favorite rod I own. But, it is also pretty expensive. The other Falcon that I'd recommend for less money is the LFC-5-1610 Eakins Jig Special - Lowrider series. Great rod!

I'm not slaved to any one brand, just whatever works and is within my price range. I carry rods from Powell, Lamiglas, Falcon, All-Pro and AllStar and like each of them.

Another vote for Falcon Low Riders. Got my first two this year and will probably add more. Also like BPS carbonlite I added this year.

ok. My turn I guess.
So I recently came in possession of St. Croix premier spinning rod, 7' M. And while I've only used it once, for a short time, I love the heck out of it. I was shocked with the sensitivity of it, and how well I could cast, both accurately and distance. Balances great with the reel I have on it. And I like the cork grips a ton. To early to tell, but I'll say it's the best rod I've used so far.

Man what a tough question. I have a wide variety of rods and to be honest they all are very comparable with the exception of the higher cost loomis. I would say my crucials, Lta's and fenwicks are all quality rods and perform well at what they were purchased for. I have more Kistlers due to the fact I was able to get them with huge discounts. Its really hard to say which is my favorite brand but I guess I would go with Kistler due to pricing at this time.

So, to sum it up again:
St Croix - 5 Kistler - 4 Dobyns - 3 Falcon - 3 Loomis - 3 Quantum - 1 e21 - 1 All Star - 1 Graphite Leader - 1 Powell - 1 Castaway - 1 Fenwick - 1 Other - 1 BB

That was a DX703C, and I got it earlier this year at a end of summer blowout sale at a tackle shop in Michigan.
I've read some very good things about the 795 ML Swimbait rods, I think you'll be very happy. You'll be shocked at how well such a long rod can balance. As for me, I've got a 765CB Glass on it's way from The Hook Up. There'll be pictures when I get it later this week. BB

I have mostly St. Croix and I love them. I also have a Carrot stick, a Wright Mcgill Skeet Reese cranking rod, a Shimano crucial dropshot rod, and a couple ugly stick lights that I use for loaner/catfish rods. I'm willing to try about anything if the price is right.

When using my boat, St Croix Legends, with 5600 Garcia reels. In boat with a weekend neighbor that is kinda wild use Johnny Morris Elite rods with 5600 reels.
Next year going to try fishing for fun, going "retro"! Restored a bunch of fiberglass rods from the 50s an 60s will be using vintage Ambassador reels with no bearings! Smooth as silk! For crankbaits, nothing but Heddon River Runts an other old stuff. BTW, the Runts in yellow shore minnow worked great this year. Even have a few spools of the old braided line. |
