I guess for me, it depends on what kind of line I'm using.
If I'm using mono, I'll spend 5 maybe 10 minutes. after that I cut it off. mono's cheap and I normally have an extra spool on board. If I'm using fluoro, and it's a bad one, I don't even bother. I just cut it off. that fluoro is probably shot now anyways. If I'm using braid, I'll spend a while on it because it won't damage the braid and braid is expensive. BB

2-3 hours! Got the back lash and had to GO HOME get tweezers and pick it out, eventually got it out and that line lived to fish another day!
Yesterday night I was fishing and got a back lash, was trying to get it out for at least an hour, couldn't get and ended up cutting all the line off, it was nested all the way down to the spool! I went to wally got got some new Ppro 30lb and spooled it on when I got home!

The unofficial record duration of a backlash remediation is three hours and twenty-seven minutes. The record is jointly held by a Mr. Lancer6 and his friend, Rodger, who foolishly attempted to cast a 1/8 oz. jig into the teeth of a 34 MPH wind while fishing for sea trout at Rockport TX in 1985.
Said "Rodger" was casting with a 6.5' rod and a Shimano Bantam spooled the #20 Berkley Fireline and the tragedy was triggered when the lure struck and hooked a light post on the backcast. Well into the early AM, fueled by pizza (anchovy and 'shroom) and repeated doses of medicinal alcohol, the two of them took turns at the task until they succeeded. . While the chastened Rodger declined request for a comment from this reporter, Mr. 6 was less reticent; Pointing at the craven knave and muttering "Idiot!" |

I know what you mean. If they are really bad, I will remove the spool from the reel. It makes it very easy to do, but the challenge at times can by removing the spool from the reel. It can turn a potential 45 minute headache in a 5 minute task.

More manufactures need to make extra spools avalable. I know i'd buy extras for every reel.

So many of my problems are caused by lack of money/thrifty living. But its better than debt. Would love to have extras of everything. Wish it rained beer too. Sadly, every time the sky gets dark, just water. No beer.

I don't understand why they cost so much when they are available. They are all ready producing them all they have to do is package them up and ship em.

A couple of weeks ago I was casting and caught my lure in a bush. Not knowing it was caught I proceeded to cast into the biggest mess I ever could. After about 15 mins. I cut it out. Lucky for me it was just respolled and I didn't loose too much line. One other time I was in my boat and I got an overrun and it took a few minutes to get that one out. I was using braid and they seem to come out easier. Anyway when I started to reel in I had a bass on my horny toad. It was a dink but he must have picked it up off the bottom.

I usually cut it out if i get a bad one.. id rather have fresh line then risk having a spool with weak spots... worst backlash ive picked out was a few weeks ago.. i was shore fishing which i absolutely hate.. so I reer back to make a long cast and the lure grabs onto a branch behind me and poof what a mess.. picked at it for about 10 minutes and gave up.. stopped by cabelas on the way home and got fresh line to respool.. got home and picked it out in literally 30 seconds. lol

Considering we are in the worst drought in modern memory I'd settle for the rain! L6 and I fished a local lake last Friday and it is so low we hardly recognized it.
to the original question-on the water maybe a minute then I just grab another rod. Off the water-maybe an hour, but only on braid. Mono gets surgery.

I don't backlash much. But when i do. It's usually such a mess. That i just cut it out & respool. I can't deal with getting back in order for some reason. I bet i only backlashed 2 times in 5 yrs.

I am pretty fortunate and quick on the thumb for the sound of the humdinger. I reckon years of dirt bike wrecks taught me to get on the clutch quick for throttle locks. But if I get one bad enough, about 10 minutes top on the water, and I sit to the side until I get home. It might get an additional half hour there. It just depends on how many questions the kids ask me during the duration. Daddy what are you doing, what is that, how did you do that, did it hurt, did you say something ugly, who made you mad...... and it goes on and on.

Funny to see this, had my worst yet yesterday morning. Took me something like 45 min. to get it out and I ended up have to take it all off
Guess I'm going to have to go get some more PowerPro... trying to get this baitcasting down is getting expensive! |
