Zooker, Ever hear of a thing called a radio ? A few years ago I fished a draw tournament and a lightning storm rolled in while we were on fish. The guy didn't want to leave until the storm hit the lake. We were running 60+ MPH down the lake in a hail storm and a bolt of lightning hit on the water so close it killed the motor just like you ran out of gas.You could feel the static electricity in the air.The motor cranked back up and we headed for the shore line and waited for it to pass through. If we had a smaller motor on the boat we most likely would have seeked shelter along the shoreline instead of trying to out run the storm .I have never heard of lightning killing a running motor before. The motor started back up easily , but when we got the the launch the trim tilt wouldn't work.Upon further checking there was a fuse that was blown, once replaced it worked fine again. Aluminum boats really help the angler that doesn't have a truck that can pull a heavy boat, plus they weigh so much less that you can get in places others can't.
On the other side of the coin they sure can make for a bumpy ride down the lake.. I have fished in many that actually seem to sit up higher off the water, kind of makes it easier to throw my jerkbait and keep the rod tip off the water on the downstroke of the jerk. |

anotherreason alum. is better is that alot of people aint got the money to go out and buy a fancy 'glass boat. the bumps are perty bad in a alum. but if your in the back of the boat, the front raise's up and by your self in a alum. you and gain a good bit of speed down the river/lake.

What it comes down to is that there are positives about both and the ideal situation would be to own both. Heck we could start a thread about how kayaks are superior to fiberglass bass boats and I bet you could find plenty of people to argue that, especially those who are big into smallie rivers. And if we are gonna argue the advantages of kayaks why not argue the advantages of our own two feet - I've probably caught more fish wading the past 3 years than I have in my boat. The beauty and intrigue of bass fishing is that the sport requires an incredible amount of tools, skills and knowledge - if there were only one way to catch a bass how many topics would really be nessesary?

Zook, most of my wading is out of nessesity. There are some creeks I know of where it is my only option - floating a canoe is too much work and you pass too quickly over good water.

turnament fishing you need speed for every min late you lose 8 ounces in weight and lazer it was the tracker tundra that hold the 250 and i watched it beat the ranger with the same size motor with my own eyes

Rangers aren't meant for speed, they are heavy, but yet more sturdy to ride in. I've probably got the slowest 6 cylider boat in my club, but it holds up and fishes very well.
Zook, Jan. is coming soon ! Get ready.
