Yeah i'm not nerdy enough to care about gear ratio as far flipping is concernded. But you are right about the winching action. That my redneck brain understands. Yanker out of the hole like a tow truck!!!

LL, 5.8:1 should not be too fast at all. look at some of the pro's. the great majority of KVD's reels are 7.1:1's. Honestly for most presentations, I don't pay a great deal of attention to gear ratio.

Dont get the SOL. The Sol was designed for lighter lines, and lighter baits. You want a good reel? Abu Garcia Revo SX or SC. The Sc is available only at Cabelas. Trust me, get a higher retrieve to get that thing winding up and bringing em out of the trash.
