Cleaning Cork Rod Handles - How? - Page 2

I confess that that used look has a certain nice mystique about it.

My issue has been that sweat commingles with the varied residues on the handle and soon acts as a surfactant, lessening my grip. That's very bad news whenever fractions of seconds count with hooksets.

For this reason, I sometimes think there must be a better rod handle material than cork.

Does anybody have any experience fishing with the graphite (or whatever its made of, kyptonite-lawrencium alloy for all I know) Kistler type handles?

I just take a bucket of hot water and some dish soap (liquid), a wash rag and scrub it clean, rinse it off and voila' like new handles. Nothing complicated, dishwashing liquid is designed to cut grease and works really well on soiled cork (bait attractant).

Ya there is! While our XLM rod are great, if you don't like the cork handles, check these out. Abu Garica is coming out with some new rods (The Vandeta and Avenger) , they have a cumara type air foam grip. Aruiss co-matixs also has a comfort grip.. 90$ rod, got good reviews on tackle tour! The new Falcon BuCoo rods look good too!

And dad, we've also got some sand paper that you can use to ruf up the cork for a better grip!

Wow, that's a mighty good looking rod, although the review fails to note the rod's graphite content. Ethylene-vinyl acetate and other rod handles are something I'd like to check out sometime....

You can buy it BPS -- but I just go to Wally world and buy the wrap for tennis rackets, much cheaper.

Read the forth caption:

"The Vendetta rods are all one piece graphite blanks equipped with Pac Bay DPL and APL frame guides with SiC inserts and Fuji Soft-Touch ACS and VSS reel seats"

The Vandetta rods means the line up of rods, meaning the the Vandetta, and the Vengeance!

I think cleaning them is a waste of time. If good contact for split second hooksets is what you need...just wrap them with barbed wire. It'll also help you to "enter the fish's world...to experience the glorious pain of fishing". It's what a real man would do anyways.
