Well, a pair of HDS-5's with the structure scan ducer, or a pair of 798's is going to cost around $1,800.
To start out with a single unit, the 798 will cost about $900, while the HDS-5 with structure scan will cost around $1,200.

UPDATE...
I just found out that Humminbird has made a trolling motor mount SI transducer. It looks great, and is not too much more than your standard 83/200 2D transducer. The network module to connect fishfinder units so you can share GPS waypoints is basically the same for both manufacturers....about $125. This just about settles the issue for me. Given Humminbird's far, far better customer service reputation, I'm going to start scoping out good deals on a 798, and find a decent humminbird GPS unit to put on the bow so I can network...and save my money for a big ol' 997 on the bow later. This should give me a very workable GPS/side-imaging setup for around $1500, cabling and mounting hardware included.

If you find any good deals let me know.....
![]() ![]() Usually when I save up the money to get one something happens to the truck and I end up paying for repairs. The past two years its been a fuel pump and then two heads cracking... ![]() |
