Ok just a little update. When I started this deal I weighed in at 191lbs on June 24th according to our bathroom scales, I also weighed in at the Dr.'s office and will use their scales for the final results but the bathroom scales keep me motivated to keep doing what I'm doing. Anyways on the 24th I weighed 191lbs, and I just got off the scales and I weighed 181lbs. So I have dropped 10 lbs in 13 days, and I have also had to tighten my belt up one hole so far and some of my jeans and shorts are starting to fit a little loose. 10lbs is only about halfway to what I hope to lose, but I feel pretty good about it and the results I am seeing. I have had a few people tell me that they can tell I have lost weight, some saying that they can see it in my face and others saying that I am looking thinner so that is a good sign I guess.

Ok I didn't post earlier due to the fact that I can't gain weight, PERIOD!
Most know I'm a life long brittle diabetic. I take like 5,6 shots a day and I'm on a diet that requires 4500 calories PER DAY. Ya no miss punch, 4500. I often go over and have to take an extra shot. I'm 5'5" and finally got to 131 lbs. Crazy huh! Went to Doc Thursday......I'm down to 120 again. Wow I hate the Doctors office, in all the years I've donated to the medical field I can't remember a single visit that I was happier after the visit. Now more tests and more cash. Wonder which Docs kid needs college tution this year.

Anyway I got off track, sorry.
The reason I posted was I want to know how the diets are coming along.
You guys have my deepest admiration and respect. You made a great decision on your own and a commitment to follow thru, HAT'S OFF.

So let's hear some updating.
Commitment doesn't guarantee success but continued effort with commitment does.

Wow Kory, if I had a mind I'd swear you read it. I was posting or typing my post at the same time you were. Ya I get side tracked often.
Great work and you should be proud!
Keep it up and I'm glad someone hears good news at the Doc's.

Hey C-rig way to go..and since the average human head weighs 10 lbs you could say you have lost your head! or even more relevant you could say you already lost a fish worthy of mounting and ultimately will lose the new all tackle IFGA World Record Largemouth Bass!!
As a matter of fact when you're done and people compliment you on how good you look and ask what's up, you should proudly stick your chest out, slide your thumbs under your belt and announce it in those terms and note their expression.

Well heck, if Im gonna start reading about dieting here I should start. Here goes: High School- 225, 21" neck, benched 410 pounds, squatted close to 500. Joined the Marines-190 of lean, mean fighting machine. 1 divorce and up to 235. Not bad. I started working out and kept at 235 with a 34" waist. Now lets speed up the clock to present. 42 years old, 6'2" 310lbs, blood pressure medication daily, borderline diabetic and miserable. Plus as the moniker says, Im a fireman, even though I can do my job, Im a risk for the other guys I work with. I can carry them out in an emergency with no problem. They cant do the same to me. Ive tried pills and other BS do this and melt the fat away, guess what- still fat. You guys have just made me realize I can give excuses daily until I have a heart attack or start doing something now. Im gonna join the rest of you and start working on a plan for my family. I need to make sure that Im still here for my wife and kids. I may even post a picture or two.

Man I am glad that you are motivated to get healthier, and for all the right reasons too. I am not full of great advice or knowledge on diets because I just recently put on my weight and up to that point I never had to worry about watching what I ate and had tons of exercise. But if you ever just want someone to talk with about your progress or anything like that you are more than welcome to holler at me. Stuff like this seems easier if you have someone to help motivate you.

flfireman, YOU WILL SUCCEED!
I can flat out HEAR the commitment in your post!
I think once you see the even early small changes on how you feel, not to add look, will even strengthen your commitment. And the family activities will grow as you loose.

I was always extremely active until I had my heart attack at age 38....from that point my activity level began to drop, and drop. I eventually gained 40lbs over my normal weight.....After my last heart surgery last Feb, the doctor said "Exercise as much as you can", so I began to slowly get more active, and I also made a few changes to my diet, and did my best to "curb" my Pepsi addiction. As of my 55th birthday yesterday, I have lost 30lbs and feel better than I have in a decade.....My pants won't stay on without a belt, and I've had to punch 3 new holes in the belt....lol. I walk and do push ups mostly....I also do some painting on motorcycles and I hand sand everything instead of using a power sander.....My chest, shoulders and arms have toned up enough to catch everyones attention when I go out now, and our friends comment "You must be working out, cause your getting all buff".....hahaha.....So I guess I'll keep doing what I'm doing.

My wife has also recently started walking and using some workout routines on the Xbox Kinect, and she's already lost 10lbs.....She won her 2nd 5k walk last month and that kind of motivated her to keep at it.....I'm proud of her.

Kory, thanks for sharing and keep us posted on your progress....I know excuses are easier then exercising, but the return really is worth the effort....Keep at it buddy.

I dont think Ill ever get fat. Theres a paternal skinny gene in my family that it appears that I got. Now I cant retain results made in the gym for ****, might get arthritis and maybe diabetes from all those years of coke (a cola) abuse, but I think Im always gonna be skinny and have hair.

Gongrats to ya Kory and kuddos to anyone that this inspired. Although I have not shared it here, here is my story. I have fought weight gain since after high school. I played hockey up till junior year of high school so I was fit as a fiddel then. I got up to the low 200's and have see sawed back and forth for the last 20 years. But then I injured my back and slowly climbed up and up. When Kory saw me in late fall of last year, I was 294. I finally decided enough was enough in january and started dieting and trying to get more active. I now weigh 250. I've lost 44 lbs in 6 months. I've been at the 250 level since late May and actually put a few back on as I was just sick and tired of not eating the foods I love. I saw a few lbs come back on and was once again depressed that I didn't stay with it so i started back up and shed those lbs , so I'm back on track and hope to be close to 200 by years end.

WTL, being a brittle diabetic most my life (min of 5 shots a day and equal amount of finger pricks). Too much sugar intake will not and does not increase or cause diabeties.
Fact 'WE diabetics' even do sugar now.
We watch Carb count (charbohydrates) now.
Now complex sugars are not the best food choice for anyone but they DON'T cause diabetes.
Now the arthritis....no idea.
Enjoy your cokes and your walks and leave the rest to God.
Oh I too have the skinny gene. I shared my daily intake earlier.

Fellas, I thought since I finally got a chance to drop in on the site for a minute I would give you all an update. I have lost 29lbs and 7 inches since I started this weight loss deal. I now have a bunch of clothes that don't fit all that well and some old clothes I can wear again LOL. Anyways I told you all that I would keep you updated so I thought I would dig this old thread up.

I've been on a diet for seven weeks now. Down 26 lbs (290 > 264) and I feel great. My stomach has shrunk and I can't even get around 1/2 of a meal I used to eat. I am trying to keep a 1.5lb - 2.0lb/wk pace now and final goal weight is 225.

And kudos to you Kory. You are killing it considering your start weight was 100lb less than mine!
