After reading this thread, I'm not even sure any more if I will be able to catch a single fish this weekend. All I know is I have a bunch of spinning reels and one baitcaster.

There is no chance you will ever catch a fish without first knowing all these formulas. I believe KVD said it best, Bass = pi r squared.

Kevin, I totally agree with the winch stuff. I love formulas too.
However, (you knew there would be one, right? ) let's leave out the "growing and shrinking drum due to cable winding" thing, as we are comparing two reels (or winches haha), that should experience nearly identical changes in their effective ratio under the same conditions. Yes, at some point both reels will have a smaller diameter spool due to line being out, but the IPT of both spools will still remain the same if it's the same amount of line out. Tavery already established that gear ratio times spool diameter was a constant...31 IPT. In the case of your formula, you will note that it is gear ratio divided by drum ratio...you already touched on that difference...it would actually be 1:10 "reduction" ratio for a winch, not 10:1, putting the "10" in the divisor. Believe me, in the technical field I work in, I know how these formulas get abused by the tradesfolk. If gear ratio times drum diameter were a constant (I know this is farsical...they probably don't rate winches by their "IPT"), and handle length doesn't change, then the power ratio of the winch must be constant as well. I'm going to bed.

Villain, Valkyrie, Violator, Vindicator, Vlad the Impaler...whatever they choose...the rod they pair with this needs to have a cool name and even better looks/performance.

But yeah I agree. I hope they do with a high carbon blank with micro guides. Not that I'll ever be able to afford it!

It's official....they're calling it the "Villan."
I think they should have called it the "Veterinarian."

Hahaha, I guess I didn't check back far enough. A day late and a dollar short, that's me.
