Default Uncle Josh's Pork - Mold forming

Well, I've had these things for about a month, and I just looked at the container. There is mold on the surface of the liquid inside. Why did this form? When I bought the container, it wasn't in a refrigerator and it didn't have mold on it. Do these things just expire quickly? It looks like I can just scoop the mold off the top and reuse the chunks.

How can I prevent this?

Thanks.

Jools, I've used Uncle Josh products for 35 years now and NEVER had a mold problem. I just opened a couple bottles I have had for a few years now, both previously opened before. There was no mold. I would send Uncle Josh an email asking them. They might give you a free replacement.

I have also used Uncle Josh for a long time and it's never happened to me either. I looked at a jar that I know is six years old, and it was tough to re-open but there's no mold. They don't need to be in a refrigerator. Is it possible that if you had them in one, maybe that's what did it?

I want to try pork this spring during the cold-water periods. What "brands" and "flavors" would you reccommend for me? I'm new and know nothing right now. Feel free to criticize me!

i bet all you're seeing is some oil and dye from the pork. I've seen the green and white with spotted green have a mcfungo look to it, but most jars will last forever if you keep water in them.

That's exactly what it is. Usually happens when the jars sit in a cool or cold place for a long time. Oil floats and eventually thickens.
