Default Anyone fish out of the Ohio river

I am planning a trip on the banks of the Ohio river. Ive heard you can catch some nice fish if your in the right spots. but i was wondering what bait you recomended and line size. everything basically. I live in West Virginia and never fished here before so any help i will be thankful for.

Pick a creek and I'll tell you where to go, if you 're fishing over by w.va the river is narrow and more curves, better chance of a river fish being a smallmouth, but go west and you better hit one of the big creeks...downsize any lure you use.

I'd imagine if you're fishing out of the river..it'd be kinda hard to catch fish???? I thought you were supposed to fish IN it?
