The Craw was king
Made it out to the pond this morning hoping to enjoy a good top water bite. I did manage to catch two smaller ones in the first 5 casts, but that was it for top water. I messed around with tubes and worms before finally switching to a red paca craw on 1/4 oz shakey head. This ended up with 7 bass landed.
This was my one bed bass of the day. The male had taken the claws off the bait and I wanted to get it on the bed before he came back to it. She hit it without hesitation. About 30 minutes later, I was watching a larger shadow cruise back and forth along a downed tree. I kept pitching the craw against the base and watching the fish show interest, but nothing too serious. I ended up tossing about two feet of the branches and watched the branches move as she flew through them. She got it before it could hit the bottom. She was one of the few fish that I ever bother to put on the scale. The digital said 3.9 I was rather perplexed as I knew she was bigger. Closer inspection showed that I was set to kilograms. A quick conversion put her a little over 8 1/2. Both of these and the rest are back in the water and growing larger.
