Default Heavier lure for lighter action rod

My crankbait rod is 7' and medium light which I like it for the longer casts. But I got some Norman DD22 crank baits and was wondering if I could break my rod by throwing these because of their weight and my lighter rod?

Naw, they wont break a rod,
however you'll notice that the rod tip will really bend once you get that dd22 thumpin' away while reeling it in....also on the cast, it will really take an "adjustment" on your part on the cast, esp the backswing and release...
everyone should have a dd22 of any color in thier arsenal...deep water crankbait....check this one out...glitter...

I would use a different rod if you have one, more like a MH for that crank.

Quite possibly but probably not. As already mentioned, you'll have to make adjustments to your cast.

I will say, you DO run the risk of overstressing the blank and it CAN lead to the rod breaking. There is a reason rod makers offer an ideal lure weight range.

At the very least, you now have an excuse to acquire a new rod for your arsenal.

That's why I went from fishing with spinning gear to a bait caster, I needed the extra "beef" that would allow me to make those long and "hard" casts with the heavier baits. In this case, your heavier bait will stress your rod some, so I would recommend a heavier rod. You can just compensate some when you load it up to make your throw, and you should be ok, as long as you don't over do it. I've never broken a rod with a heavy bait, but I have had to give up on the distance of the cast.

my david fritts crankin' rod is a medium and it handles deep divers great(although i don't throw them often)...they are not my confidence baits as just about everyone here knows.

I use a 7' M action Falcon Low Rider composite rod for those big 'ol baits. A big, heavy bait like that will really stress that ML rod-just don't try to throw it too hard and you should be OK, but I'd look to get a little heavier rod for those big baits. The only ML rod I have is a saltwaater popping rod which I use for suspending jerkbaits.
