Default Buzzbaits

Are there any techniques when fishing buzzbaits or do you just straight reel em in? I don't have any experience fishing buzzbaits so sorry if this is a stupid question

I just cast and reel. If you can hit it against stumps and stuff stickin gout of the water, do it. Also you want to reel as slow as you can (in most cases) and still keep the bait above the water, so keep your rod tip high.

For the most part, I reel them slow and steady but at least once during the retrieve, I'll crank real fast for 3 or 4 turns causing the blade to kick up water and sometimes this will trigger a strike from a following fish.

I always have at least one white, one black and one chatreuse (or limetreuse) buzzbait with me. We've caught fish on them in the middle of the day in almost 100* heat. Very hot for up here.

buzzbaits the slow retrive just barley keeping it at the surface usually does it but if that is not working i will sometimes rip it through the water and the dramaticaly slow it or even stop it, and i will usually get a strike at that point . and like bama and bb said black, white , and a chartreuse should cover your colors .

I've been getting topwater/buzzbait bites all day long lately but I've been fishing tidal water and the fish feed while the water moves so there is an advantage. Another thing I've noticed is that when the dragonflies are being hit by the bass in the middle of the day you better be throwing topwater.

And don't forget the trailer hook. I never throw a buzzbait without one.

I almost always use a trailer hook too. The only time I odn't on buzzbaits is when I'm using very small 1/8oz ones.

Can anybody reccommend me some 1/4-1/2-ounce buzzbaits? Looking to spend up to $7 a bait, any brands.

Thanks,

I have a few in my box, even threw one my last tourney but ive never been a big fan of them. Give me a walker or a popper any day, that and well the rage tail toads make a bigger wake then even the bi buzz baits.

Booyah's are great. Tacklewarehouse was a pretty good selection of buzzbaits, go check them out buzzie. I do love the Booyah double buzzbaits, but $10 a pop gets expensive pretty fast.

I use the hart brand buzzbait

plus on the retreive, i reel it in at a steady pace, then rip it 3-4 feet fast for a dif sound...some of the harts have holes in the blades to leave a bubble trail.

My favorite is the Strike King bleeding buzzbait. It has holes like Jb said the harts do. Personally I don't like the buzzbaits that have the clacker. Never did good on one of those.

You might want to try removing the skirt and adding a soft plastic bait instead for something different. It works! Try a 4 inch twister grub or a fluke.

keith,
thats a great idea, kinda like fish2wins chatterbait/fluke suggestion.
I too dislike the clacker on buzz baits, i prefer a plain jane but it has to have a flat bottom lead, instead of the bullet style.....
the flat lead shape comes up on plane so much faster on the retrieve.

A hammer and a hard flat surface is all you need to solve this problem.
