Dream Trip--Lake Okeechobee
We've always dreamed about 2 places we would like to fish. Lake El Salto in Mexico, but I'm not in the mood to go down there and get shot at. The other is Lake Okeechobee in Fla. and we booked our trip today for early in March, staying at Roland and Ann Martins Marina. I can't wait.
This is a Christmas present from my awesome wife.

Bcklash, you should have a great time. I hired a guide 4 years ago out of Roland Martin marina and we had a blast. We didn't catch any giants but I didn't want to fish with shiners and since it was July our guide said shiners were the best bet for the big ones. Take lots of pictures.

Congratulations Ron! That should be an awesome, once in a lifetime trip. I don't know when the spawn happens there but the early spring fishing should be great.

Nothing, in fact a person would most likely more and bigger fish. We just like using lures more, you know chunking and winding.

Very doubtfull you'd see Roland at the marina bearing his name. I believe his ex-wife got it in the divorce and he's not allowed to set foot on the property. At least that's the story I got when I was there and asked where the heck he was. Drove all that way to get a personally autographed Helicopter Lure - what a dissapointment. After that I became a fan of Bill Dance.........................
I'm not a fan of fishing live bait either, but I may do it next week (Central Fl) if we're not catching them on artificials. Last edited by bassboogieman; 01-03-12 at 09:43 PM. |
