Default need help choosing another reel :)

well after that tourney i think i need a new reel... I've been wanting to buy one for a while. then another rod, but thats later. OK well i wanted something around the 50 dollar range, and here are my choices:

pfleuger president
Abu garcia cardinal 500 (my current cardinal has a trigger that catches the line up a lot)
Shimano Sedona
Shimano Solstace
Both shimanos are same price but on BPS solstace has a 5 out of 5 rating. what are your guys opinions? if it matters they will be spooled with cajun redcast either 8 or 10 pound test

cranky,
to get more useage out of your present reel, start opening the bail and holding the line before you cast, rather than using that troublesome
trigger mechanism, you 'll do better in the long run..its a old school thing

oh no that aint the problem. i usually flip the bail by hand. but when reeling, sometimes the line gets wrapped around or caught up in the trigger. plus i have my spool with 3 knots in it, since i connected long peices of line. those knots get caught up, but i didn't want to waste line, plus the reel is pretty low on line anyway

I dont really know how to help you on this one because I dont usually use these reels. The only comment I have is stay away from shimano.

i havent expierienced shimano, but i have heard good things on them. i would go with this combo
http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse
or this one
http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse
they are both really good deals,so i would jump on them right now.

I would go for the second one. I absolutely love my Pfleugers, put a Pfleuger reel, and a Falcon rod together, and you have heaven(IMO).

Every shimano Ive ever had has not been durable. The parts are cheap. The more expensive shimanos arent bad but the mid range reels like this I would stay away from.

cranky, I've been using the same shimano's spinning and baitcasting reels for 13 years, plus 5 quantum baitcaster reels that are equally old, never had any problems with any other than cleaning and lubing and respooling.

I dont know my reels may have been defective. Mine ussually lasted about a year to two. The best advice I can give you is to try different brands and find what works for you.

You didn't buy defective Shimanos, You just used them alot. Doc, I hate spinning sh*t, but you gotta have them, so let me say it again. When ever you can buy a spinning reel that has metal frames and side plates, they are definately worth the little more money you will spend on them. The Browning medallion on sale is in your price range. http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse The reason for the metal side plates is the crank handle bushings are built into the side plates. Plastic side plates will wear quicker than metal sides plates.I hope this helps. P N J
