"Floating" Worms
Since I truly don't have a topwater rod, or too many topwater baits for that matter, I decided a good substitue would be a floating worm.
I'm mainly going to be using my 7'6'' ML with 8# fluoro (Finesse Rod). Do you Guys have any suggestions as to what brands of worms to use? What are some popular colors? -Lunk-

The Zoom Trick Worm in bubblegum is great during the spawn

i agree on the zoom trick worm suggestion (haven't found a color of them yet that won't catch fish) i guess you could throw a fluke in that group as well.

i agree with them. the trick worm and the fluke. i had one of the biggest bass ive ever had on on a trick worm but he spit the hook while jumping over a log. on the colors, i usually throw white, chartreuse, or pink.

Or any time they are hitting one. By far my favorite color for a floating worm.

No, they sink slowly at rest, but I always work them fast enough to keep the on the surface. There are a couple that really do float like the Strike King 3X baits but I don't like to use them because they get so sticky.

another trick of the trade on floating worms is to put a swivel about 18 inches back from the hook, to eliminate line twist, helps alot for you spincast anglers

I normally prefer the zoom in either pink or merthiolate (sp?), whatever that color is, its like orange pink.
Sometimes in the past I have used the 3X worms with success. They do float depending on the hook you use. That becomes important, a superline hook is heavier than a regular one; there is no optimum bouyancy you are looking for, just whatver allows you to present the lure in the best way to the fish and relative to existing cover. The 3x baits are also much more durable, so that is a plus. I still use the zoom more, but the 3x have a place.

OK, if I twitch the Trick Worms fast enough it will work on the surface?

it will, but i recommend you to let it sink down about 1 or 2 feet and twitch it once or twice and repeat.

The idea is to keep it on top as you twitch and real at a relative fast speed, this will trigger the bite.

Definitely add a swivel about 18" up the line to help eliminate line twist.

trick worms work great in all the colors ive thrown, but you should try floating a tube strike king bleeding tubes will float pretty good with a mustad ultra 4/0 hook works great around pads, jumping it in the water from shore, or skipping it alone the top like a jumping fish.
