Default BPS Rod/Reel Baitcasting and Spinning Combos

Hey Guys,

My first post to the forum, I am looking to get back into fishing have not had a chance to do it since early teen years. Since I am getting back in it I would like to get quailty equipment that is going to last, I would like to round up enough money to get a boat in the next few years (Bass Tracker). I have done a search and from what I can tell the BPS combos are in good standing with most of you guys on the board am I wrong?

I am looking these optinions;
Bass Pro Shops Bionic Plus Reel/Bionic Blade XPS Rod Combo $119.98
Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier Baitcast Reel/Rod Combo $159.88
Bass Pro Shops Extreme Baitcast Reel/Rod Combo $114.98
Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier Spinning Rod and Reel Combo $139.98
Bass Pro Shops Enticer Rod and Reel Combo $69.99

If anyone has expierence with any of these your opinions and comments would be great.

Welcome to the forum!

All I use are the BPS Extreme reels-discovered them several years ago and have been very happy with their performance. I've recommended them to several folks here and all have been real happy with them. Great reel for the price.

BPS makes good rods, too. I'm not a big fan of the hump handle they have so I don't use them, but the quality is good.

I bought a couple of combos you mentioned above back in the mid ninties, I did not care for the reels, but I did keep the rods. Although, I would recommend them to anyone, I just personally didn't care for the reel that much. I now use Shimano's on all my fishin rigs.

Welcome to the forum DBake.
I use bionic blades and love them, however I have quantum and shimano reels on them. My rods have held up over 10 years now, still work fine.
Back when I bought them you could get 2 for 52 bucks on any size bionic blade rod...times have changed huh

Welcome. I can't really help you on the rod combos but from what I understand they're a great deal.

What Shimano reels you put on those sticks now?

For around the same price ($100-$160) is their better deals out there for combo's?

DBake, I use mostly AllStar Classic and Falcon Low Rider rods. I use a pistol grip Lightnin' Rod for floating worms and a Fenwick Techna AV flipping rod, but the rest are Allstars and Falcons.

The only BPS reels I've used are the Extremes and I've fished them hard and they still work great.

Welcome, and watch your step, it can get deep. I don't now, nor have I ever used the BPS brand. I do however greatly value Rebasser's opinion, with some others here on this site. I would think he has the most experience with that brand, since he's been reccommending them for years, and years, and years LOL.

Most of my rod/reel combos are from BPS. They have changed the baitcaster reels for the new year. Not sure what brand they are. The old ones were a pfleuger designed reel. At the spring classic I spoke w/ the pro from pfleuger and he said BPS purchased 3 designs and labeled them as BPS. I have 4 baitcaster extreme rod/reel combos and 2 bionic blade combos w/ the sahara spinning reel. I have had virtually 0 problems w/ them, minus a broken eye or two. Snapped one rod, my daughter set her pole on the floor of the boat, I stepped down and when I sidestepped to miss hers, I stepped on the top foot or two of mine and SNAP. Didn't bother me though, Im a big guy and thats a lot of krispy kremes coming down on that pole. The power hump is a love or hate thing, I don't have a problem w/ it. Buy what you can afford and build from there, the bait monkey will keep you going.

I am looking at the smallest version of the extrem baitcast reel, the one where it is like 125 yards 10 lb test or so.
