Lost a Big'n
Went over my dad's yesterday afternoon for dinner and took my crank'n stick to make a few casts in his pond before we ate. The ice is finally melted off with the warm weather we've had the last few days. My brother was there before me and he caught a small bass on a Zoom Ultravibe Speed Craw. I threw a LC RC 2.5 and on my 3rd cast I thought I was hanging into a stump until it moved. I set the hook and had him for a couple seconds and it came off. Dang it!!! I saw the fish swirl on top and it was a minimum of 3lbs but probably more like 5lbs. That would have been my first fish of the new year but guess I'm still rusty from the off season. At least I had a good fish bite! We may go to another pond today after work since it's going to be 75 degrees today. This place has some HAWGS in it. Hope to have some good pics to post later!!!

That's funny JB. It wasn't an aggresive bite so she probably was barely hooked is my guess. I hate losing big fish!!!

I always have to remind myself that right after ice-out when the bass are still slugish, that I need to interpret a heavy line as a bite and take a swing at it and see. I have to keep telling myself that Hooksets are free...
Hope ya get her next time Eric. ~Mark |

You will catch it again (bigger) so all is not lost, yet.

nothing quite as bad as losing a good fish, but hang in there. the weather is gonna turn good before too long and you will get more chances, at least you got to go fishing anyways.

They say it's better to have hooked and lost, than to have never hooked at all. At least I think that is how it went.

Were still a good 3-4 weeks from ice out here, so if you get some pics, share away so we have something to look foreward too!
