Peoria Gander Remodel.
hey fellas i havent been on the forum for a few months...iv been lazy lol sorry! but anyhow i work at the peoria il Gander Mountain in the fishin dept, and i have for almost a year now. anyhow there doing a remodel so all the tackle is 50% off and rods and reels are 35%! So of course i had to take advantage of this deal. I ended up getting the revo mgx for around 180 bucks which isnt bad for a 350 dollar reel, as for the rod i ended up with a gander mtn xfactor micro guide, 6'6 med hvy fast action. I was excited so i thought id bragg a little bit lol

Me personally I like a 5.4:1 retrieve reel for my chatterbait/spinnerbait. I use a 6:1 for traps. So I guess that means I'd use it for pitching. Especially for May/June when the fish suck the bait in and haul arse before I can get a hookset. The faster reels and braid allow me to catch up to them.......

Or don't spool them up quite as full as you normally do. 3/4 full should slow them down a good amount.

My trip to the Gander Mountain store in my area was a bust yesterday. I picked up a couple small items, but all the rods and fishing line had been removed from display. And there were only 5 reels to choose from in the showcase. Nearly all crankbaits were missing too. It looked as though they had removed everything that sells, and left what they wanted to get rid of.

keggs17 congratulations on your good haul.
Don't be surprised if your great fishing dept. gets cut in half to make room for shoes, socks and women's apparel. Even in Madison, Wi. where they have 3 HUGE lakes and had a Gander warehouse/ liquidator site and three stores now has ONE and a fishing dept similar to Kmarts or Shopkos. Please, this is not to knock you or your employer. The fishing manager at our store buys almost everything he buys from Wally World. And I live in a RIVER town. Gander just seems to be trying to get out of the 'fishing business'. Last summer I had to go through 3 stores and a lot of negotiation to get two to mail to my hometown. On line and stores are TWO COMPLETE different business'. Neither will cooperate with the other one. Gander is NUTS in Wi.! More than once, I've not been able to find 3/0 wide gaps...of ANY brand at 'OUR' store. Fact I helped a college kid get a transfer to the Gander in the town he was moving to go to College. Happened to be my hometown and college but still, I would think Gander would of taken the initiative cause this guy knew his stuff and worked for them 3 years. He said he was told all the fishing depts were being down sized. Back in the day, Gander had everything and aisle after aisle of fishing stuff. Best of luck with your knew setup, thats a NICE setup you grabed!

yeah i really dont understand why they want to remove our fishin department alot of my regular customers are upset as am I, we are shanging to gander mtn Gun World...we will sell mostly firearms and fire arms accesories....i think that its a mistake to take the fishing dept out and replace it with gunns...but i am only an employee...what can i do...lol and yes the online store and ours stores are the same way as yours its always a pain...idk we will see how this remodel goes...but as for all my deticated bass anglers that come in...idk what will happen to there buisness...gander may loose on that deal.
and Thanks! i love the mgx even tho...peoria just got 3 inches of snow, so i will not be casting it even in the yard for pratice, but as far as smoothness and quality of the reel itself, I think its a decent purchase haha |
