Default Mono line question.

Up untill now I have been a user of Silver Thread mono line and a couple lines from Trilene, the XL and the Sensation. I was thinking about trying Bass Pro's XPS mono line and was wondering if anyone here has used this line and what you thought about it? I'll check for answers later, off to the lake for a few casts from shore.

Only mono you need is Ande, but if thats too expensive, Calcutta makes excellent mono, almost as good as Ande.

The BPS mono is pretty good line (for mono).

Not a mono user. Have heard the BPS is good stuff, guy that fishes with me has some spooled up. No moans, groans or complaints from him about it. Haven't seen him lose any fish with it........well, he really never catches a lot of fish to begin with.

I don't like the BPs line personally. I'm a big fan of Cajun red line, low stretch, low memory, and incredibly strong.

Keith the BPS line rates about the same as Trilene XT. In my opinion, if you are looking to try a different line try Maxima Ultragreen. I believe it to be the best all around line out there.

All those are good lines, but Ande cannot be beat by anybody.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I was just currious as to how BP line handles for others before trying it. I mostly use Silver Thread now and Trilene Sensation and have no problems with either of the lines I now use. Rarely ever a breakoff. Can't remember loosing a fish due to breakage with either line in years. And I catch plenty of bass. Thirty two between my last two outtings. But I'm always open to new ideas and product lines and the price of BP line seems reasonable. I can't stomic paying the price of the newer lines. Nearly 20$ for 300 yards on some is just too much for a budget minded guy. I have a son in college now, and well.... you know the rest of this statement. But mono has worked fine for me. Thanks again for your opinions. Thats what makes this site so great.

If you ever want to experiment, I think you really should try Calcutta, their mono, is the 2nd best out their, and cheaper than alot of other brands. And if your looking for braid, turn to Calcutta also, they make the best braid imo. It may be hard to find, but for the price, it's definitely the best out there.

KEITHDOG,
I have used mono lines of all brands ever since mono was invented. (I started fishing with "levelwind" reels and braided nylon line) The best mono I have found is Tectan Damyl line, sold by Cabela's. It is very limp, has good knot strength and abrasion resistance, and thier 13.9 lb test line is the same diameter as Trilene 10 lb test. It comes in clear and a new light green that should blend in great with off colored water. I am a strong advocate of Power Pro braided line, but I use Damyl line on my crankbait rod and my Spinnerbait/buzzbait rod. It is actually not all that expensive either!

McCoy Mean Green is an excellent mono. Very little memory, extremely strong, and reasonably priced.

I was introduced to Mean Green while on a guided trip for smallmouth on the Delaware. The guide indicated that he strings all his rods with the Mean Green and that the stuff really lasts. I went out and bought some and haven't switched to any other line since (although I intend to experiment with some braided lines in the future).

BASSKING;
Since you find it easier to ask a dumbass question instead of picking up a cabela's catalog or pulling up Cabela's website and looking for yourself, I will read it to you right off the package. "mm/0.25", "Tragkraft Kg/6.3", "Breaking Strain lbs/13.9"! If you are still in doubt, do the math and convert 6.3 kilograms to Lbs. IT'S GERMAN, DUMKOPF!!!

k-dog,for mono i see no reason to use anything other than trilene XL or XT.i'm sure there are many other brands that are as good or better, but i stick with what works for me.

Well, I'm a grumpy young one, does that count? Good to see you Jackl...

Bassking, maybe, if you didn't disrespect those that were older and wiser than you, and make stupid comments, you'd spend less time on iggy lists. Have a nice day.

As for the question, Ande is the best, trilene works, and I've heard good things about the BPS stuff.

I was just kidding around, I had no doubt that the line was 13.9 lbs test. I just thought it was kind of ironic that is was'nt 14 lb line.

Easy guys, I'm sure king will gives us all the details of his extensive testing that brought him to the conclusion of which line is best. With his vast knowledge he will no doubt list all the lines he personally tested and also the methodology uesd to test them, much like his post on purchasing a baitcaster a few days ago.
