Nibbles with no hook sets

Well to start of I've been fishing this pond for about 3 years. The last two years I've cought many bass in there. This year I seem to not be hooking them. Ive been using the same hooks and worms I always have and I always sharpen them. I mainly fish zoom ole monsters with a 2/0 hook T rigged. I just cant seem to figure this out. I've probally gotten 100 bites in the last two trips to the pond with only one landed. Do you think its the hooks or too big of a worm?Ive also thrown some 7" culprits with same problem. The hooks I use are the ones in the yellow package that have the post that hangs down you put your worm on. Sorry I just cant think of the name of them. Anyways, any suggestiopns?

Try a Matzuo or Gamakatsu 2/0 extra wide gap hook, with your usual worms. No need to sharpen these for a while, they're chemically sharpened.

could be active sunfish or bluegills..they do that alot..they nibble on the tail and the hook is too big for their mouth...

The hooks you're using sounds like Mister Twister Keeper Hooks. One of the easiest to rig weedless and one of the best to use if your havin trouble getting a hookset on fish. Don't know what size worm you're using but for 6"-7.5" I prefer a 3/0 especially in the Mr. Twister brand. Worms longer than that usually a 5/0. First time I ever heard of those hooks was from Larry Nixon at a seminar about 15 years ago. Seeing how he was the first guy ever to win 1 million dollars in tourney winnings I figured he knew what he was talking about. Heck of a good guy to talk with to. Got off track sorry, the nibbles your getting are probably small fish whether it's bluegill, bass or whatever. They just peck at something that's to big for them to swallow.

Well some are nibbles and some take off with it for a couple seconds. I do beleive some are sunfish but for sure some are bass.

4 words.

Daiichi Bleeding Bait hooks.

Combine the worlds sharpest hooks with the Bleeding Bait red, and you can't lose. The bass will target the hooks and the hooks will grab them and not let go.

Of course, most of whats hitting yours does sound like bluegill/sunfish.

As stated before, bass just take em and go. No nibbling.

Also, the ole monster is a big worm. Drop down to a 4 or 6" and see if that helps..

Ditto what has already been said. It doesn't cost anything to set the hook.Change up baits if something doesn't seem to work as well as change your retrieve speeds.I hope this helps. A 6" straight tail worm might be something to look for in your shopping spree for bass baits. P N J

i'd say they are probably bluegill biting at your bait. You may want to try some kind of scent on it so they hold on longer or strike it harder. Also try some other baits too.

If you pickup on your rod and feel some weight after seeing the line going, it doesn't hurt a thing to jerk, just in case it is a bass instead of a gill..

100 bites? Bluegill, or especially warmouth if your pond has them. Warmouth are very prone to hitting the same lure multiple times, hence the number of bites, and they cluster together.

If you go to a smaller lure you should get some hookups with whatever is hitting. Smaller lure, light diameter and sharp hooks.

BTW, who makes the X point hooks? Lizards sent me some and boy are they sharp, I mean I would pay premium prices for them.

Ive been using garlic and baitfish scents and they both seem to work well. Went today and got some more hooks. I beleive yall are most likely right. Most have probally been sunfish and then I probally missed just a few bass. I know for sure a few where just cause of the strength of the hit and from previous years on this pond. Ive been fishing it reallll slow, only moving it every 20-30 seconds. Well if I can get one or two a nite, Ill just have to put up with the annoying nibbles from the sunfish or whatever is doing it. Thank yall much for the suggestions. Ive tried many lures and worms on this pond and for some reason the best seems to be the ole monsters in plum and watermelon red. Caught a few on white spinners and few on small cranks.
Well I have a tourney on Lake Amistad the weekend of August 18. If anyone fishies it a cuople days before that let me know how you did. Seems to be fair right now. Caught a 6 10 last tourney there but heck that was in Feburary LOL. Thanks again.

TTI/Blakemore makes them. They make Tru-Turn, Daiichi, Stand Out,X-Point and Mr. Crappie Hooks, Roadrunners, and Real Magic.

and yep. They are very sharp. TTI makes the best hooks around, IMO.
