Default Colors . . . the Old is New Again

Any old colors in your tackle box/bag that have made it back into your regular rotation?

On another thread, a fellow member mentioned "Motor Oil" worms. I remember using motor oil worms as my go-to bait back in the 80s. Interestingly, I just ordered some soft plastic swimbaits in that color. It seems sometimes the old is new again.

I´ve pretty much fished with the same colors for more than two decades:

Tequila Shad
Red Shad
Black Shad
Watermelon
Motor oil
Grape
Chartreuse.

I've got a couple BASS magazines from the early 70's and Harry and Charlie were throwing those 12" Scuppernog worms back then and they're still selling today. Mmmmm. Might be something to that color.

Natural earthworm colors up here in the midwest is deadly esp. on lakes where you would see alot of kids fishing with real worms, Aside from that color i did catch my biggest bass in may a female full of eggs, and i also caught the male on the same worm color and that was on a Black and Blue with silver flakes power bait Trick worm, it doesn't have a tail on it, just a hard diamond shaped knob on the end.

used to use Purple alot, and also Black with a Hot pink tail (not ribbon) just a single tail worm, they say those single tail worms put off more vibration than a ribbon tail, I've heard its very close to the vibration of a Bluegill in distress so i always try to stick with The older style worms, if i can find em. Not saying i don't use ribbon, but only when i want more action if i see bass are taking in interest in the worm as im crawling it on the bottom, or sometimes using em as jig trailers.

i think that motor oil with flake of any color is a pretty good color but regular motor oil with no flake is my favorite.

Nature of the beast, marketing, they need to keep saying something new is catching more fish to keep us buying. Most fisherman fall for this, but the smart ones become victums, they discontinue the old colors and we are left scrambling to try and find the color. Any one here ever fish the old K-mart peewee worm, best worm ever, I used grape. So soft after two or three fish it was toast sometimes one, they had the best action for a paddle tail.

CC, tell me about it. Strike King discontinued my favorite colored tube. I had to "scramble" to replace them. I ended up purchasing some leftover from a tackle shop in Canada. I paid more for shipping than for the tubes.

My all time worst discontinue was one buy Culprit, a craw imitation that was gold on the bottom and brownish black on top. Flipped the s#@* on that color, even told a fisheries instructor about it, he came back with story after story of how well it worked. Within a year or two the color was gone.
