Default Deep-South Fishin'

Well, this is my dream. Going down to the homeland and givin' it all I got at some good 'ole, 10,000 acre reservoir bass!

I always dream of going down to a big old reservoir, gettin' back to the basics, and tryin' for some hawgs! The perfect scenario would be...
  • Pre-dawn take-off; cloudy skies, slight drizzle....
  • Fishin' the ledges in 20' of water, rocky bottom, Drop-Shot.....
  • Doin' it all out of a Nitro Z-9 CDC w/ a 300 Mercury...
I think that would be great! Any bodey else have a dream trip you're dying to take?

By our standards, its cold - thawed down here though doesnt mean not frozen. Guntersville doesnt freeze, or at least it hasnt for a while.

Lunk, when you come south, be sure not to pick just any old 10k acre lake. Some, even though they are of a southern latitude, still arent worth a dam. I even know of florida lakes that don't have any bass over 4 pounds in them.

I suppose the dream, since I've done G'ville, done Kissimmee, done Pickwick, would have to be exotic. I'm gonna say flyfishing in Russia for Atlantic Salmon. Someday I'll do it too.

10,000 Acre Lake?? That's just a pond, son! You need to look up the stats on some of the more famous waters down here! That would just about make up one secondary creek cove!
here's a sampling of some of the more popular fishing destinations in Texas (in surface acres):
Toledo Bend - 181,600
Sam Rayburn - 114,500
Livingston - 90,000
Falcon - 83,654
Texoma - 74,686
Amistad - 64,900
Richland Chambers - 41,356
Tawakoni - 37,879
Cedar Creek - 32,623
Fork - 27,264
Ray Roberts - 25,600
Whitney - 23,500
Ray Hubbard - 21,671

Everything is bigger in Texas...

Here in Mississippi, we've got Sardis Reservoir at 58,500 acres, Arkabutla Lake at 33,400, Ross Barnett Reservoir at 33,000, and Enid Lake at 28,000.

Ross Barnett is practically in my backyard, so that's my usual weekend getaway.

well lake guntersville is about 70,000 acres. and then you go up river. on the tenn river all the way through ga and tenn. lots of water here too. then we have logan martin, weiss lake, smith, and on and on. i believe there is more water to fish year around in the south (and i am including texas!) than anywhere else in the usa. not wanting to start a fight. just saying YEAR ROUND FISHING. so you have alot of area to cover. now that got me to thinking..... wonder just how long it would take for someone to actually fish each and every lake there is........hhhmmmmm.

What I like about the Alabama lakes is the proximity. You can fish any of them within a couple of hours of driving. From what I can tell in a short time, most of the lakes are really great fisheries!

In Texas, within a 100 mile radius of the centerpoint of Dallas and Ft. Worth are over 100 Lakes that you can launch a bass boat in. Many of those are pretty pathetic for bass fishing, while a few of them are really great lakes. To get to the historically phenominal Texas lakes will generally require driving 4-6 hours or more. They are spread out pretty darn far from each other (with the exceptions of T-Bend and Big Sam).

My son (Bassinbandit) and I got to fish Guntersville last year and a blast but our dream is El Salto. We are also thinking about taking a week and fish 4 or 5 different lakes, a new one every day, lakes that we have never been to.

Hell, if you live on TB or Sam, you don't need to fish other lakes! You got a lifetime's worth of fishin' right there!
