What is your opinion on glasses for fishing?

I think they are the 3rd most important thing I take fishing behind my rod/reel and my tackle box.

But I do a lot of sight fishing in shallow and clear water.

I don't think there is any debating that they work, but some work better than others.

Kinda hard to see without them when the sun is glaring off the water sometimes . Do I think you need to spend a couple hundred dollars on a pair , not at all I buy the strike king glasses from wal mart and they handle my needs just fine and it isn't to upsetting the couple times a year that I inadvertently destroy them.

x2 on the walmart strike king glasses... not as big a deal when you lose or break em, and they do the job just fine...

One of the things I do not go without-ever. Like Krtismo said-one of the top 3 things. Not only for seeing better, but to protect your eyes from damage that can appear on down the road.

Reb is right. Protect your eyes!!! As a guy who has totally screwed his hearing (too many cymbal crashes in my left ear), I can only feel bad about that now. But as a result, I am totally protective of my eyes. I wear my sunglasses religiously between 10am and 7pm on the water.

I never wore sunglasses b/c I never found a good pair to fit my nose comfortably until recently. Now I never go fishing with out them.

Nothing is worse for your eyes than the glare off of water or snow.

You can do a search. We have had several good discussions in the last couple of years on sunglasses.

Cloudy vs clear days on the color lens and how they fit, and some personnal prefences.

Don't think I would survive without them - on or off the water. Get the best pair you can afford, and you will be much happier.

Shades are a definite must have if you're on the water a lot. The glare can cause a lot of damage and if you're like me can also give you some pretty bad headaches. Get a good pair that fit comfortably and are 100% polarized, they should keep your eyes protected during those long days on the water.

If you wear glasses, like me, those "Cocoons" are pretty darned nice to use. As many previously stated, you must protect your eyes.

Good qualilty sunglasses are a must have, on or off the water. I don't leave home without them. If you've never used polarized glasses for fishing you will be amazed at how much better you can see into the water with them.

Sunglasses are very, very important. I forgot mine on my last fishing trip, and definitely wished I had them. Over and over again, I wished I had them. Not only for shade, but to protect my eyes from the wind while running from spot to spot.

One word.. YES!

I'll add a few more too! Make sure you get a pair with UV protection, mine are not, and at the end of the day, sun burnt eyelids suck! lol Also they flat out help you see what's in the watter better.. and they're just easier on your eyes!

I always wear polarized sunglasses. I have owned a lot of different brands and most recently went from higher end Solar Bats to WileyX's. My next pair will probably be Oakley Monstor Dogs.

Really like my Monster Dogs, but I love my Straight Jackets. They fit me just a bit better. IMO, Oakley makes the best polarized lenses on the market. I've owned nearly every other brand, and I always regret going away from Oakley.

I've had my eye on the monster dogs as well after Curado pointed them too me.
Then I got the Wiley X zaks and love em!

Ive worn cocoons and the Berkley polarized glasses....They get the job done...But the wiley's are an incredible difference.

Yeah... I used to wear REVO sunglasses but lately have went to good ole fashioned Ray Bans for every day wearing.. but you wont catch me wearin em on teh water... they cost too much to drop in teh lake... and my every day glasses are un-polarized on purpose..

With all thats been said, I have little more to add other than get a pair and wear them!!! For those who wear prescription glasses, I'd recommend a pari of Cacoons. They are a great over the glasses eye wear.

Here's a kicker my buddy I work offshore with told me. If your company provides you with eye wear, you can get prescription Wiley's from Wal-Mart on the insurance or company dime because they are Z87 stamped. You might have to pay a little if insurance only covers to a certain point. But for now, I am staying with my Oakley Monster Dogs. I am putting back a little here and there for another pair in the amber color for the low light days.

Very good advice. I wonder if anyone has the same feeling when they're without they polarized glasses as they are when they forget their wallet. Arrrgh!

I happen to be in the Strike King glasses class too. I break/lose them too often.
