Plastic on carolina rig?
When throwing soft plastics I've always thrown em Texas rigged or weightless. I recently read up on a Carolina rig and finally put it to test the other day...the only problem was the plastic was just dragging on the bottom. I didn't know if it was the bait or something like the line or leader length. I was using a 1/2 oz. with about 18" mono leader, and i tried a baby brush hog, 6" lizard, and finesse on 3/0 gamakatsu EWG. Any input or tips on presentation would be great. Thanks for the help

That's fine, if it's dragging on the bottom. There are some plastics that are designed to float, but most don't. And even the ones that do might not float well enough to pull the hook and line up off the bottom. So keep doing what you're doing....you're doing it right.

I rarely C-rig, I just don't like it, but it does have it's purpose in deeper water especially. I use a leader of 3' - 4' when I do throw it. Not quite as short as what you do.

The plastic will pop up more than you think when it catches changes and debris on the bottom while dragging the weight back.

Give that line a good sweeping yank, gets the bait off the bottom, then it slowly drops back down, and the weight stirs things up, repeat. Although I use a few floating plastics(Larew's mostly), I usually get strikes on the drop.

kennethdaysale, you talking original floaters or some other balsa rap or which Rap? And are you dragging it like typical carolina set up or fast retrieving (not cranking fast but constant retrieve fast)?

jd............original floaters...usually #13 #11 #9 on a 3' mono leader. The perfect scenario for me is a steady breeze blowing the way i want to go, just fast enough to keep the plug wigglin above the bottom but not so fast that the lip makes it dig bottom.

Kennethdaysale, thanks I'm thinking of trying that.
hdmoorefootball, I got to ask, what would a trap do other than drag behind the weight and leader? |

I cant imagine it doing anything, I heard somebody mention it the other day when we were talkin about fishing Belews Creek. Maybe keep the trap down deep and drag it a little faster than your normal crig with a little more weight?

TN, do you use them anywhere?
If so, why, where and when. |

When I said that I don't use floating traps on c-rigs I meant traps in general on carolina rigs... Never got into the hardbaits on C-rigs like some have. I don't use floating traps anywhere really.
But from my understanding a floating trap will still dive, just not very deep. Would probably work pretty good on a carolina rig.
