Fall pattern Help Needed for Florida Lake.
Hello Everyone,
I got a tourney coming up in Sarasota Florida on a 300 acre shell pit. This is a small tourney about 12 boats, but I still want to do well. I've had good success on this lake in the summer by fishing dropoffs with timber dropping from 8 to 15 ft or 13 to 25 ft. Water clarity is medium with tannic stain. Fishing these drops now has resulted in only small fish and not too many at that using a Carolina rig/junebug worm. The lake's loaded with shad and the center depth averages about 25'. The surface temp right now is about 70 degrees and has fallen about 4 degrees in 2 weeks. What would you guys do to catch fish here this time of year? Go shallower fishing flats (there are some nice 6 foot flats) or go deeper. What would be your lure of choice? Any help is greatly appreciated.

This time of year the ratl trap are great. I primarily use silver w/ blue back. Sometime I opt for same color w/ orange belly. I also tend to use the magnum size over the standard size.

Thanks Flfireman
Good info, I'll give it a shot. I've tried them on this lake many times but hadn't had any success. I probably didn't use them this time of year though. Any other advice like water depth. This lake has no veggies except cattails in 1 ft or less of water.

I would look for the shad cluster, the bass should be busting on them.
Try whatever you have that imitates the shad. It's known that jerkbaits are great at imitating a wounded shad, like the Smithwick's Super Rogue or Rapala's X-raps,- those chrome/blue traps are a favorite too. wishing ya success, |

Good luck, I'd try small crankbaits and throw close to wood if theres any in the water, or give the ol rattleTrap a try. Spinnerbaits or jerkbaits too

Thanks guys, I finally figured 'em out. Took a while though. The carolina rig was producing 13" shorts and were scattered i.e. one here one there. Found a underwater point goes out a hundred yards or so to 12 foot deep then drops to 22 feet with submerged timber just at the drop. Carolina Trick worm still produced quite a few small. Worked up to 10" magnum worm, still small fish. Threw a #9 shadrap silver black, couldn't bump bottom and didn't get a fish. Broke out a DT14 shad color rapala, finally scraped the bottom on occasion and wham. Nice 3 pounder! About 10 more casts, another one same class. Put it away and saving 'em for the tourney. Hope the weather is as nice as it was this past weekend in Sarasota, Florida.
By the way, I started this day working shallower water with rattletrap and husky jerk. One strike on husky, but no hookups. Rattletrap blanked. Thanks again for the tips!

Oops, a little late on the report. Caught one fish 2.26 pounds, 15 dinks. Cold front just moved in and I didn't readjust. Lost 2 around 3 pounds which would a been enough for 2nd place. Made some dumb mistakes trying to horse the crankbait fish around my trolling motor and both came unbuttoned. Oh well, thoroughly embarassed but will accept suggestions for fishing weedless lake with submerged timber post cold front
