reel maintance?

I'm sure this topic have been covered at nausium......but could someone point me in the right direction for either a thread or series of posts on self-maintance on both spinning and BC reels...I am starting to buy better equipment, and want it to last. Maybe a YouTube link?? Any help would be awesome. I thought I remembered Kevin talking about putting together a video?? thanks guys!

This has a few tutorials, cleaning and maintenence isnt very difficult. Use high grade lubricants such as Ardent Reel Butter or Quantum Hot Sauce. Hope these help man

Just make sure you lay each part out in a place/fashion that mimics the way it came apart. That's what I do for just about anything I take apart. Learned the hard way to many times. haha

I put a white cloth down on the work space. A small spring or other part falls to a hard surface - it will disappear in to another dimension.

Forget about the cloth, small parts like C/E clips, springs n´screws got a mind of their own and they usually blast off from the reel at warp speed going boldly where no other reel part has gone before.

To dissasemble a reel there no better place to do that inside one of those blanket cover packs, unzip, place your reel, tools and hands inside it and proceed to work, if any of those lil fellers decides to take a hike you´ll find it inside the cover.

This is a pretty useful video for maintaining a spinning reel. It demonstrates field stripping a Shimano Sustain 3000 in real (reel!) time so its particularly useful if you have a Shimano spinning reel although I suspect the procedure for other makes won't be that much different.
