Unhappy reel trouble

I have a Diawa procaster reel. The problem is when i am reeling in line
the clutch arm sticks on the left side as it moves back and forth.I have
to manually push it to get it to continue back the other way. What could
the problem be?

check the bottom screw on the line guide bar. Look at the worm gear.

Sounds like the pawl that rides in the worm gear could be warn down. You can buy another one for just a few bucks if you have a place near by that sales reel parts.

It is either/or the pawl or worm gear. Most likely the pawl as it is common and expected for pawls to wear out every so often. Had one go out on me on my last trip, but I was in a groove and fished on with the line collecting on one point in the spool and managed a few more bass.

If its the worm gear, which is less likely, sometimes you will get a burr on the corner of the chanel that directs the pawl in the wrong way. Thats happened to me about twice in 13 years, whearas bad pawls have happened several times each year.

Academy often has replacement pawls. BPS usually wants you to send you reel in so they can make money with reel assembly fees doing something that takes less than 25 seconds to do.

WTL's right. These are you're two most likely causes.

If you can't get one from a store, call or email daiwa, they should be able to send you a new one, it may just cost a bit more than from a repair shop.
