Hollow them out and stick a trolling motor on the back and you sneek up on the ducks next hunting season.

How big is his splitter???
My dad and I cut and sold firewood for many years back in Ohio, nothing even remotely close to that though.

Good money can be had if this type has no "cat" faces. The bark needs to be straight and the tree is solid and with no low limbs.
They don't necessarily care for 8' logs but will except them, but 10' and longer is prefered.

bassnman, ur right for the most part, but some "cat" faces (basically scars form some sort of injury) can be purely superficial and not affect the actual wood. Also, this type of thing (a single tree from a guys yard) is usually only attractive to a furniture shop or some guy with his own mizer. In which case, some limbs or defects can be more valuable because it creates swirls and unique patterns in the grain. Believe it or not, some trees with bug holes are actually more valuable than the same tree without bug holes. It's called "character wood" or "distressed".

Alot of these logs are sent overseas. We recieved $2600.00 for just one and that was less than it was worth.
We have recieved slightly less for other white oaks. "They" apparently wanted just those that were untarnished and clear of any diffaults.
However, your right about the cat faces and limbs that are present, they do make great looking furniture etc...

What gets me about the exports (especially Japan) is that we'll sell them some cheap a$$ wood and they'll make veneer out of it, stain it, and sell it right back to us for 10 times what we sold it to them for. In otherwords, we'll sell them cottonwood and they'll it back to us as Cherry.
