Been in Florida the last week (pic heavy)
Finally got to take the trip to Florida this past week, I didnt mention it on board because it seemed like I kept having to put it off.
Had a good week on lake Seminole and then Lake Kissimmee. No fish was a wall hanger, but there were several very good fish caught. I found that the fish werent chasing the spinnerbait, it was better to slow it down, nice and steady, through rushes and vegetation. I used a night fishing spinnerbait sprayed white, with white blades a lot. Also used a few others cause I broke quite a few wires. Got off to a good start. This fish was getting close to 4, or at least I thought so at the time. Picture kinda makes me wonder, it was a great fight though with the fish taking me under the boat several times. This little shakespeare excursion reel also bit on a spinnerbait. I dont need it, but will clean it up just to see if it works later. Before After Yea, thats my fish. I had the camera. I swore never to produce an image depicting the lure that caught this bass, and also the pickeral. I have destroyed the original photographs. Thanks, Zooker. My best fish of the trip, Bama crunched the numbers and it should have weighted over 6 1/2 pounds. Last edited by WTL; 05-17-10 at 10:52 PM. |

Dangit.....I shouldda just drove a little farther and passed Dale on the way to Florida!
Great pics, WTL. I love the sleepy dog pics, and especially the before and after shots. I didn't know there were pike in Florida. I guess it's just one more reason to destroy people when they call them "northern pike". If you had thrown a larger spinnerbait, you might have come up with the rod too.

I'm no good at estimating pickeral, but it was a nice one as far as I know...perhaps 2 and some significant change. It was very tasty, I really liked it grilled. The only reason they arent popular dinner fare is the bones, which I learned to eat around by using the fork to pull meat off and away from the spine.
The microguide MHX rod I built was the primary rod I used and performed very well. The REVO also did well. I think the combination of the two especially were helpful in fighting some of the larger bass, this combo gives one a good chance with its backbone, you have to be able to direct bass away from rushes or pads or else they will get off. I really am at a loss with what to do with the reel. It was a piece of garbage new. But for some reason, I dont want to trash my catch. |

Looks like you had a great time man! By the way, ask John who really crunched the numbers on your six pounder. 6.55lbs. Great fish though! BB

If I were a Buddhist and inclined to believe in reincarnation... I would hope I lived a good enough life to come back as WTL's dog. That is living!
