Senko w/ roofing nail?
Checking to see how many of you guys fish the Senko wacky style with a roofing nail to get that fall away action?

I fish a ton of 5" and 7" senkos wacky-rigged, but I have never tried them with a nail inserted. Will also be interested to hear from those that have tried it. So far I haven't seen the need, but maybe I'm missing out and should at least try it.

I use the Lunker City Nail weights in Senko style baits, Super Fluke style baits. I like these weights over the roofing nails because (1) they are heavier, (2) you can adjust the weight simply by breaking off the amount you want with your fingers. I can assure you that I seldom throw any of these baits without a nail weight. I like the added weight for casting, I also like the way you can alter the rate and way the bait falls when you pause it.

I'm with Bob on this one-the nail weights work better than a roofing nail for the reasons he stated. However, I do have one exception: Wacky rigging a slender bait like a Trick Worm. There I find a small finishing nail works better.
Regardless, an interesting way to rig either is to just weight one side of the bait. It gives it a different fall, something the fish may not have seen before.

I have heard of using finishing nails to weight different soft plastic baits, but I have never heard of using roofing nails. They seem like they would be a little to big to use on senkos, are we talking about the same thing, or are some of you using roofing nails?
