Default drain pipe bass

around my old neighbourhood there were alot of very large ponds all connected to each other, all with lots of good bass fishing. in several of those thick metal pipes that connect one pond to the other i remember there used to be some huge bass. i mean these were some hawgs, i was scared if i hooked one it would eat me. but the problem was no matter what i tried i couldnt get one. i tried spinnerbaits, jigs, plastic craws, worms. at first i tried getting behind the pipe so they couldnt see me and just danging a bait in front of them, well that just scared them away. so then i tried a slow retreive with a spinnerbait and jig in deeper water. obviously they saw it but none of them even went for it. man those drain pipe bass are hard to figuire out. any suggestions?
